Being an Aunt...(kdelace)
I love reading your posts about Bella. I remember sounding exactly the same way about my nephew, Josh, when he was first born. I remember thinking the sun rose & set with him - and would never get sick of stories about him. We all doted on him so much we nicknamed him "Messiah" because we thought eventually he was so great, he'd walk on water. The first time it was truly unconditional love for me.
I remember thinking when I was pregnant about Josh when he was a baby. I wondered if I could ever love any child as much as him. What surprised me most was once I had my own kids - if you mulitiplied how I felt about Josh a thousand times, it stiill wouldn't come close to how I felt about my own.
I love being an aunt. I was the one that my nephew would talk to when he couldnt' talk to my sister because well, she was his mom. It prepared me more for motherhood than I imagined but still left me surprised over how much more you can love someone - it makes me wonder what grandparenthood will be like.
Anyway - just being mushy. Just all of the Bella posts remind me a lot of myself when I first became an aunt. I think you're going to be one terrific mom one day.
Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Being an Aunt...(kdelace)
Barbara, what a sweet sweet sweet post
May I add to the "being an aunt" thoughts ? ...
and it kinda hit home for me too, because my twin sister (is this your twin's child that youre referring to?) My sister was the 1st of the siblings to have a baby, and my niece/Goddaughter was also my first "baby" in many ways. and I say that to her all the time.
Being an aunt truly is an amazing bond, a special experience that really does prepare you for motherhood, it really does bring out someone in you that you never knew was in there
I was completely in aww of my sister being preggo. I think all pregnant women are beautiful, and now it was my sister, carrying a baby, it was so surreal, it was amazing. I always say i felt like it was my own first pregnancy because I was so connected to it all. She was carrying this precious baby, I read books with her, I followed her pregnancy, and I was at the birth (of 3 of her 4 kids). The birth alone was one of the most incredible experiences of my life (till I had my own babies ) I remember being so overwhelmed with a zillion emotions, this precious baby... I was her aunt...zia... It really is a special love and a relationship that has its own unique qualities....
and yes, then having my own, I never thought I could love even more, I never thought it could multiply even more than it had already...
My MIL always does say "you just wait" when we ask her how different is a love for a grandchild ? .... its something she cant even put into words
she always says "I wanna just crawl into their skin" which I think is so sweet...
I hope I didnt impose on the post, Barbara, it was just such a sweet note, such powerful thoughts that I totally related to....

Re: Being an Aunt...(kdelace)
so true! Especially a sister's child. My sister does not have any children yet but when my son was born I was touched by how in love with my son she was. The wierd thing is he looks at her differently. He is only ten months but i know he probably wonders "she looks like my mom, smells like my mom". A sibling is the closest relative to you and I feel like the babies know this,
When me and my sister are together with the baby he looks back and forth between us. I can't wait for my sister to have a child!
Aunts are the best!
