Re: When did you feel "normal"?
I also felt more normal when I went back to work. As much as I hated leaving DS, I think having a routine made me feel better.

Re: When did you feel "normal"?
I just read the 2 above posts and I am bf'ing and have dealt with anxiety for a long long time. I'm getting anxiety about getting anxiety when I start weaning lol.
Haha I had the same worry but it didn't happen to me (and believe me I was hypervigilant about looking for it as any good person with an anxiety disorder would be )

Re: When did you feel "normal"?
I would say 7 weeks - I stopped pumping which was making me anxious and crazy. By switching to formula only DS also chilled out a bit (we had just moved into our first home, I was eating terribly and DS already had a bad tummy). When I went back to work at 4.5 months I really started feeling like myself!

I have to warn you though, not sure if you're BF-ing, but when I weaned from the pump between 6 and 7 months post partum I developed post partum anxiety and ocd. I'm now 8.5 months post partum and I am feeling better with treatment, but still not 100%. I feel like the hormonal change in quitting the BF-ing was way more pronounced than I ever expected.
This is interesting and I have heard this often. I did not experience any PPA/PPD after birth or after weaning my DS but I was concerned about it as I have a history of anxiety/panic disorder in my past and was concerned that it would pop up again. Just something to watch out for because my friends who experienced it after weaning didn't even have it on their radar as they had gotten past the post partum period and thought all was ok. Hormones play a huge role in women's moods and can be unpredictable to say the least.
I get Post Partum Anxiety and felt totally back to normal about 30 days of taking Lexipro. I also took Xanax in the beginning. I've been on it for 4 months now and feel great. I didn't take anything with my 1st baby because I had no idea what post partum anxiety was. It lasted about a year without treatment. This time around is completely different. My dr said if I get pregnant agin she would write me a RX to take to the hospital. If you are really anxious, can't sleep/eat etc... Call your dr !!!
I've been taking Zoloft for about 8 weeks now. I do feel a lot better, but still not 100% I also had no idea what post partum anxiety was!!! Then one day I was just so disturbed by I was feeling that I started googling it and was STUNNED to read the description of PPA. It was me to a T! And I have no history of anxiety or panic disorder. I am very much looking forward to getting completely back to my old self again!

Re: When did you feel "normal"?
So sorry for your loss
Don't worry - you will feel normal again - its just will take some time. For me it was once the baby started sleeping through the night and we developed a routine for the day and naps and stuff. Like OP said its a different normal but you will feel like you again.
I think the lack of sleep, the hormones and your body getting back to itself takes time but it definitely makes you feel like something is wrong - like your living an out of body experience or something lol.
Once weird thing that helped me was watching tv with DH at night (even if it was just an hour or so) and the best thing that helped was watching old reruns like Happy Days -- for some reason it just made me forgot about everything else for a few minutes - and those happy ending type shows seem to be better emotionally than say watching the news with anxiety ridden topics
