Hands in the mouth at 4

DS was a paci kid. Had his pacifier till he was a little over 3 and gave up on it himself. At that time it was only at night.

He was fine without it and never asked again. Now a year later suddenly I notice he's needing some oral fixation. I first noticed it a lot when we went to Disney World. He has some sensory issues, but he's been growing out of a lot. He was so happy in Disney, but at some times he was a bit confused or seeing something new his hands were in his mouth. THis is new. I never noticed before till the past month or so.

Could it just be a new nervous tick? DD is only 1 but wrings her hands. I'm keeping an eye on it and she is getting EI now, but looking back, I had a lot of ticks that came and went as a child. I grew out of them eventually.

My son does weird stuff like this and it is usually just a phase. He used to pick at his lips, that stopped. He has these little quirks he will do for a couple of months then stop. Funny enough he was doing the fingers in the mouth too. Could they be molars? Or maybe baby teeth shifting to make room for big teeth?

mine goes through phases like that also.
he also was a paci baby. Stopped at age 2.5 or was it 1.5? i cant remember.

he went through a phase of picking his lip, chin, face. Then he went through a phase of putting his finger in his mouth I said why are you doing that he said because so and so does it. I told him to stop, he stopped eventually.

Now he is in the 'clucking' phase. He walks around the house and CLUCKS it drives DH and I Mad, we are trying to ignore it, with little success.

Thanks all! I think it's a phase too. New thing to do. Just never was into putting his hands in his mouth till now so thought it was strange. I have noticed he isn't doing it as much. Was more at Disney and at night when he's tired. His teacher mentioned she noticed it too.

Mine is doing this too (3.5) and progressed to nail biting.

I think it's just a bad habit/ phase.

My ds never took a paci and has some oral issues. He is 4 and always puts his hands in his mouth. We always tell him. "Quiet hands" and he has to wash his hands immediately if they are in HS mouth. He also has a nuk brush that he sometimes chews on.

Come to think of it.. AJ did that for a bit.. every time I'd catch her I'd say "hands out of your mouth please" then it became "Hands, mouth" lol It was a phase. She wasn't constant about it. She hasn't done it in ages now.
