when did your toddler start saying words? was it an explosion where it all happened at once or was it 1 word here and there slowly?

Im not sure if 1 is considered a toddler yet but my daughter is saying so much these days - I feel like in the past month she is communicating so much. the other day she told the dogs "bad girl" clear as day!

around 18 months DS had an explosion of language. he started saying single words here and there after 1, but between 18-20 months is when he started really grasping language and putting 2-4 words together. it's different for girls and boys, but anywhere from 18 months to 2 years is when they should have at least 50 or so words.

I'm a speech therapist. Usually first words come between 12-18 months old. around 18 months or so is usually when they start to combine words into 2 or 3 word phrases.
obviously, its different for every kid. some big things are just constantly talking to them, telling them what you're doing "mommy's pouring your juice!" "that's a red crayon!"
BUT... I find something that is just as important that some people forget about it.. is making oppourtunities for THEM to talk and kind of pushing them a little bit to use the words they know. Like, for example. if they are whining and handing your their sippy cup... instead of just getting them their drink, ask them "milk or juice?" and try to get them to at least try to say one of the words (even if its "muh" for milk, take it! )
"More" is another good word to start with. Give them only a little bit of a snack you know they like. they'll probably start whining because they want more. So try to get them to say "more" before you actually give them some more. This is a good word to start with because it teaches them "hey! if I say a word, it gets me something I want! I'm gonna start using more words!!" LOL

DD was an early talker. She had a few words or expressions at 9 months. By a year she had a lot of single words and at 14 months was saying tons of words and starting to string them together. Now at 18 months she's starting to use some full sentences and can say or repeat anything.

My 22 month boy had 13 regular words but another 13 that he had said clear as day at least once but hadn't repeated yet I'm worried but ei said call back at age two if little progress

My 28 month old says everything we say and talks non-stop...she was an early talker and its been gradually increasing, but in the last month or so she has become a little chatter box-we talk ALL DAY LONG-even in the car.

I can understand her, but other people only catch about half of what she's saying. I'm starting to wonder when she'll start saying things so that people can understand everything she says.

My 1.5 year olds sure were not linking words!

DS is very verbal now at 3.5. He spoke slower than DD... But was on target.

DD is 22 months. She can link a word or two at times, (usually a phrase like open door or mama coming) but usually just uses one. I have no clue how many words she speaks.

DD at 18 months says about 8-10 words consistently and she is starting to do more babble talk where it sounds like she is telling me something and I'm sure she is, but, it's just sounds being stringed together.
She is also starting to put words together "Hi Daddy, Bye Bye train (we live across from the LIRR). But, she didn't say 'mama' till about 16/17 months old!

Dd is 13 months and only says 2 words consistently. She also doesn't say ma ma yet!

My ds is almost 18 months and says maybe 15 words and about 10 animal sounds, he says a few phrases, but I think he sees them more as one word- like thank you, all done

around 12 months he was saying mama, dada. by 16-18 months, he was talking up a storm. i started making a list of words and he was at over 30 words and starting to put words together like "more milk". now at 23 months, he says short sentences like "where Daddy go?" and "No want that". he repeats everything. it's been very gradual, slowly increasing his words each month.

Around 12 months DD had about 5-10 words. By 15 months I would say at least 20. After that I stopped counting. I remember an explosion after 15 months. By 18 months she was putting 2 words together. Now at almost 2 I couldn't even begin to count the number of words.

My DD had a few words at 12 months, and over 30 words/expressions at 15 months. She is 16 months, and is saying new things every day. She repeats everything, and uses a lot of words independently. Her current favorite is "How're you?" The other day, her 2-year-old cousin came up to her and said "Alana," and she responded with "How're you Greggy?" Love seeing the word explosion!

Between 15-18 months DS started making sounds and forming words. At 20 months he had an explosion of one words, by 22 months he had an explosion of 3-4 word phrases and it's been non-stop ever since. Now, he's 26 months, and he's a motor mouth.
