*KNOCK KNOCK* - Hi can we come in, we used to live here!
So this is what happened today
Of course it TOTALLY disrupted my boys' naps, but we felt bad and let her in
The previous owners were her parents (in their 70's or so), so we really dont know her. Her parents are sweet as ever (they moved to NC), we still exchange Xmas cards, and occasionally emails.
The whole family was in town for a family wedding so she wanted to stop in to relive her childhood for a few minutes
Although I could TOTALLY RELATE to this feeling, I kinda peeked in where I grew up, but my parents still own the place and its rented and my brother is there VERY often (2-3X wk)for "landlord" duties, so it was different.
But she totally caught us offguard, thankfully the house was in great order and we remember mixed feelings from "the kids" when we moved in, they were extremely p issed that the parents sold the house, they kinda "took it out" on us, they removed a little duck statue on the lawn after the house was sold, spitefully took things their parents said they were leaving (ACs, BBQ, a few minimal things we didnt care about-but it was the way it was done and the principle).... There are 5 of them, so maybe she wasnt involved...
We totally would have loved if her parents stopped in, her dad even cried at the closing
It was kinda strange, I thought she was going to be sad at things changed around, what can ya do its life

I always wonder about places that I used to live ... but what a strange thing -- for people to just knock at your door! My house would most likely NOT be in order!

Re: *KNOCK KNOCK* - Hi can we come in, we used to live here!
I had the same thing happen to me. However my house was not in order. I am a teacher and it was the first summer after we moved in the house so I was trying to get organized and EVERY room was a disaster!
I don't know what made me stop working and look out the window but I did and there was a man taking a picture of my house. It was the original owner not the people we bought from so I had no idea who it was. So I opened me front door and asked why he wasv photographing me house. Before I knew it I had all the strangers in my disaster opf a house!!

Re: *KNOCK KNOCK* - Hi can we come in, we used to live here!
My house is not ALWAYS in great order, trust me, we lucked out and my husband still thinks it wasnt presentable, I think it was pretty darn decent esp considering how THEY had it before us they had this shag tye-dye carpet in one of the rooms, from the 70s and we now have laminate flooring there. the kitchen downstairs, was ICKY to even stand in, it wasnt in working order, it was just a room with gross old appliances that hadnt been touched in years, its now a cute little furnished kitchen, and although we have some of the "work in progress" look going on, I think we were in ok shape
except, her mom had our backyard lanscaped like a resort and having grown up in Queens, we dont have much of the green thumb, having had a cement driveway for a backyard but I promise, its on my list !!

I have dreams ALL the time that I go back to my childhood home (which we just moved out of 4 yrs ago ), and yell at the people who live there now So at least she didn't yell at you

I wanted to read the whole story but I couldn't get past the "boys' naps" part. JA still naps?! What's your secret!!?? Sean hasn't napped (except for falling asleep in the car) since 23 months.
OK, I did read the whole story and I have to say that's a bit creepy, but kinda cute. Good thing the house was presentable! I have toys strewn throughout my house from the early morning until about 9:00.

That was nice that you let them in. My parents sold their house and it's empty now. The new people will be moving in next Monday and it's going to be weird to not go over there anymore. I can totally relate.

God Bless! My nephew is an Oct 02 baby too and he still naps as well. *insert green eyed emoticon here*
Thats weird that they showed up like that, esp since they were jerkoffs to you when you purchased the house (Grow up already!!) but since it was in good shape today and in far nicer condition that when you bought it, it was very nice of you to oblige them a trip down memory lane. Jeez...maybe they got some closure and can get over it that their parents wanted to move on with their lives and sell the house and move to NC.

I know it isn't funny, but DH did this when we were in Poland a few years ago. The people who bought his parents' old apt were classmates of my BIL. We were visiting other friends who lived in the building and on a whim DH knocked on the door and said hello and just wanted to stand at the door and peek in but the guy remembered DH as BIL little brother and invited us in to see the place.

Oh god. I would never do that. You are a nicer person than I am because I would have not let them in (I don't think) especially after what you say they did. I guess she was lucky you like her parents.

That was very nice of you! I wouldn't mind going back to the house I grew up in. We have passed it quite a few times but would feel a bit intrusive on the previous owners to ring the bell. I never met them... I also wouldn't mind if the previous owners wanted to come back to see our current house, so long as they took their shoes off, lol...

I had people do this too. It was halloween and they came trick or treating and my mom was at the door and when they told her they used to live here and wanted to see the house she let them in. I was furious at her and the kids were literally running through my house yelling and screaming. At least this was before dd!

Its not without a fight that they nap But if we think we have a long day ahead (we had a picnic yestdy) and they had a late nite the nite before, we know they NEED that nap. Usually we try to talk to them about what's in store AFTER than nap (doesnt always work so easily ) Nicholas is easier than big brother. When Im home with them, John anthony naps in my bed, or they will talk and play in their room and never sleep. At nite, they both fall asleep in their beds after a million books, and sometimes daddy hangs out in there till they fall asleep (dont start more bad habits! ) So thats my nap story, I REALLY try to keep it a routine even if we're just home, it really refreshes them and keeps them (and me) sane

Re: *KNOCK KNOCK* - Hi can we come in, we used to live here!
Well some things (like the landscaping) were far nicer when they were here and they really were jerks some of them. This one lady that came yesterday is a twin like me and I remember her mom going "SHe's a twin also !!!!" and her daughter (dont know which one, lol) shoved her way through us chatting and didnt even stop to acknowledge what her mom said They even took the SOLD sign off the lawn
She told us her mom has had/has several medical conditions, so Im really sad for them now too I hope they dont stop in for coffee this morning, Im not even dressed yet

what a cute story! AWWW I totally would have been driven by nostalgia to drop in. I havent been back to italy in 13yrs and we used to go every other year growing up, for the whole summer. and now my aunt convinced my mom to rent out the house (old house on the mountains that my mom grew up in, sooo many memories ) I think I would cry if others were in there, I dont know what would make me cry more, going back in or not going back in...

yikes, thats a bit much. she had one kid with her, about 9, and he was so cute, recalling all these memories, he was 3 when he was last here (6yrs ago)... he remembered alot !
