3 month old sleeping help

This is my this, so I should know what I am doing, but I clearly have forgotten! My 3 month old is EBF and sleeps in the cosleeper in our room. She eats every 3-4 hours all night, and has started waking up every hour needing to be soothed back to sleep. I do hold her a lot at night, and she definitely wants that. She also naps in the swing, bouncer, car seat, in my arms...no schedule. I am going back to work on Monday, so I can't totally fix this all, but what should I do. My husband is annoyed with me because he feels that I did this and should have known better.

Help! I want her to nap and sleep in her crib or the cosleeper better!

Re: 3 month old sleeping help

It's pretty normal for a 3 month old to wake during the night. I don't understand your husbands frustration.

I've learned sleep begets sleep. The better she napped, the better she slept at night. And warm baths at night help at that age.

Also maybe she's gassy? Have you tried gas drops? At that age I remember offering gas drops pretty regularly and gripe water at night if she was really cranky.

Re: 3 month old sleeping help

His frustration is that she wakes up every single hour. I feed her every three to four, but she is up every hour in between. My 2nd dd didn't sleep through the night until after a year, so we know she may wake up to eat, but the waking up every hour seems to be a learner habit. I know that I did this by holding her when she fusses and falling asleep holding her sometimes, but I want to change it. She doesn't know how to self soothe at all. She wants to be snuggled or nurse to soothe.

I'm a ftm - but from what I know about child development habits can't be formed that early, and some kids learn to self soothe later than others. What worked for your other kids may not work for this one. DS is just 5 months and is still working on self soothing. Maybe you can use a pacifier?

I think you just need time.

I went back to work at 8 weeks and my DS was not sleeping normally for Months. It was tough on both of us but there is an end.....we just never know how long it will be.

There is no magic answer. They will sleep when they are ready.

Re: 3 month old sleeping help

She uses a pacifier occasionally...and she used to self sooth(suck her fingers), but I think I stopped letting her need to so she just stopped. She didn't always wake every hour...this is new for the past few weeks. I am going to try to get her to nap better and try putting her to sleep in her crib. Maybe not being so close she will fuss a bit before I hear her and start self soothing more.

Re: 3 month old sleeping help

We had to finally put DD in her own room and crib because DH kept waking her up with his snoring. Between the two of you and LO you are probably keeping each other awake. So it may be a good idea to start putting her in her own crib.

DD is an awful napper. It kills me to because she's so obviously tired, yawning, rubbing her eyes, making them red. I don't know if something else is going on and I'm trying not to lose it.

Like you, I think I've created some bad sleep habits. Just move forward and start working on the things you want to change.
