FTWM and pumping at work - question

I’m back at work now and having a rough time balancing out this whole pumping thing.
I know there is a requirement about a space for pumping. I work in a small office < 10 people so I'm not even sure that it's applicable though my boss is trying to help. Unfortunately I work in a cubicle so no privacy. There are 3 offices w/doors – my boss’s, the other partner and another girl (it’s an office with 2 cubicles but no one currently uses the other one.)
Since I’ve been back, my boss has been out on the road a lot so I’ve used his office and when he’s been around, I’ve used the empty cubicle when the other girl is out at lunch. I have been pumping twice a day. My only other options will be the basement (dirty and cold – yuck ) or my car!!
When I am in an office, I can usually use the computer so I can continue working. If I’m in the basement or when my boss is remotely logged in, I can’t do much. So, those of you who pump at work, does the time you spend pumping get taken out of your paycheck? Or do you have to make it up – short lunches or work later or earlier?
My boss hasn’t said anything about it to me. I think he figures I’m doing work, but once I’m stuck pumping in the basement or my car, I won’t be able to.
Any thoughts or info? I’d appreciate it!

here is some legal info on pumping for working moms.
im not sure how much would apply to you being part of a small company but for me, they were required to give me a space to pump (not a bathroom) and pay would not get deducted

The previous poster posted the requirements for the federal law (included as part of the Affordable Care Act), but NYS laws also protect you, and there is no employer size minimum. Here is the link

The empty cubicle could be your space if that is all they have; the regs say this: "As a last resort, an employer who is unable to provide a dedicated lactation
room or other location under these guidelines may make available a cubicle for use by individuals expressing breast milk, provided the cubicle is fully enclosed with a partition and is not otherwise accessible to the public or other employees while it is in use for expression purposes. The cubicle walls shall be at least seven feet tall to insure the nursing employee’s privacy."

As to pay, your are entitled to "reasonable unpaid time". But, you can choose to take the time as part of your lunch/coffee breaks, to which you are entitled under NYS law. You can also choose to make up the time before or after your normal scheduled hours, provided you are working during your employer's regular hours.

Also, if you are an exempt, salaried employee, the employer cannot deduct any money from your salary for the pumping time, as that would destroy the salary basis, making you an hourly employee, entitled to overtime, etc.

I just started pumping at work today... The supervisors were very nice about it (I was surprised how accommodating they were!) and gave me a private room to use & didn't say anything about making up the time (I think they're just so happy I came back from maternity leave so fast). I'm guessing it might become an issue though with getting work done since the pumping is so time consuming, so if it does, I will offer to work through lunch (unpaid time) or at least part of it.

I pump in my car 3x a day. I prefer it there bc I can relax and listen to music. Sometimes I answer emails on my phone. But now I have been doing it for so long each pumping session is abt 15m only and I rarely take a lunch break.

I pump in an office designated as a "nursing mothers room" 3x a day. I am salaried so no there isn't any reduction in pay. However I eat lunch at my desk everyday. I figure that gives back part of the 90 minutes out of lthe day I spend pumping.

ETA:

While I pump I do not work (since I'm away from my desk). I usually go through my personal e-mail on my cell phone; facebook; surf the internet; play candy crush etc.

Thanks so much for the input!
I don't mind giving up some of my lunch hour, but sometimes I need that time to do stuff. And my boss can be really ridiculous about things sometimes, and not other times but he is also a terrible communicator, so I don't even know what he's thinking.
I am just finding this all very overwhelming. Sometimes I think I want to throw in the towel. But I was so happy DS2 took to nursing-DS1 never did. But I just don't know if I can keep it up!

here's an idea may be crazy but worth i try..... How tall are your walls of the empty cubicle. Can you put a tension rod and curtain for privacy???
