Flu Shot

Besides my ped's office where else can I get a flu shot for my 3 year old?

Someone told me places like Walgreens, CVS etc won't give it to him because he isn't 18 years old. That they do not carry the same shots that a ped office would.

Since I work FT, the earliest time I can get him to Ped's office for a shot is Nov 11th - which means taking off half the day from work, getting home from the city and then driving to LI...for a 4:30 appointment. Thats crazy traffic hours.

The next available Saturday isn't until Dec.Chat Icon

Where do you live? a multi-practice office like QLIMG or similar would have flu shots for kids-- I got my kids in there that year that the flu shot wasn't available widely.

Sorry. Stinks to WFT!
You are right in that a pharmacy won't give it: just your ped.
I take a half day.
You may be able to sweet talk your ped to do it on a weekend...

They can't just have you come in and get the shot by the nurse as a walk in?

I split up my dds shots and in between her dr appts I just go in for a couple minutes and the nurse gives the remaining shots from her regular appt.

It's so frustrating! I had DS 2's 18 month appt on a Friday a couple of weeks ago since I work from home on Fridays. I had asked if I could bring DS 1 with me since we'd be there and the receptionist's response was that we only give flu shots on Mondays and Thursdays. I raised a small stink and was able to do it.

Maybe check a place like PM pediatrics - or a family urgent care - that's open nights/weekends, maybe they can accomodate you.

Call your Ped office and ask them if they have a special RN coming in to do them. I got a call from mine last week saying that for the next couple of Saturdays or Sundays, they'll be giving the flu shots via RN at the office, walk-in, between 10 and 2. I thought this was nice. Although I took my kids Friday morning, I thought it was accommodating for the religious and FTWM's

Re: Flu Shot

Ask your Ped if they have any flu clinics, I know a lot of them do it this time of year. Ours has every saturday from 2-4 and weekdays as well.

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately, they don't have 'special hours' just for the flu shot - I had already asked when they first tried to give me the Saturday appointment in Dec.

The Drs are the only ones who will give it to DS - not the nurse. It's annoying because right off the bat when you call to make an appointment for anything, unless you tell them a weekend they give you weekday appointments in the middle of the day. Umm not all of us are SAHM's.

I'm going to call Bayside PM Pediatrics and see if they will administer to him. He's on his sceond cold since the start of Oct. I HATE HATE HATE the colder seasons!

A regular CVS won't give it to under 18, but find a CVS with a mini clinic. They can give it to kids bc they have a nurse or nurse practitioner there. There aren't a lot of mini clinics around, but worth googling bc maybe there is one near you.

Good luck!

Thanks...will think about taking a ride to Larchmont, since that seems the closest location to me.

Its different here but ...
Our major grocery store (HEB) gives them to kids and adults
So does Target
And Walmart
Nearly every CVS has a minute clinic

good luck!
