Re's who consider genetics n immunology issues

Hi all,
I was hoping we could generate a list of re's who consider genetic and immune issues into their treatment plan with you on long island.
I know dr.braverman is king of it. Any other docs within the other practices come to mind?

And thanks to all of you for the support and information I am getting here. I have gained so much strength and comfort for you. I thought I was going to crack up from the isolation of the past year. This board is a relief.Chat Icon

I don't know too much about it but am interested in people's responses. I want to get this testing done soon.

LIIVF will do chromosome and genetic studies... But absolutely no immune stuff which is why I will probably have to leave.

SIRM - DR. Wang and Dr. Tortoriello

How early is their monitoring? Can I make it back to the Island by 9 AM? They might be my next stop.

Definitely not......the worst part about them is the monitoring appointments, but the reason for that is because the doctor does your ultrasounds and blood and you get SO MUCH personal attention.......I would say SIRM is ideal for those who work in the city or have a flexible schedule. They also offer afternoon monitoring.

I emailed dr.kriener at liivf and he said that no, they do not have a doctor that specializes in it. Everyone talks about sirm but that's manhattan which would just add huge stress to the ivf process as I live in Suffolk. How about dr.zapantis?

I have the same issue I can't travel to Manhattan. I have to be at work by 8am. NO exceptions. I would like to find someone out here who is good and does the testing.

As for Dr. Zapantis he is my RE. I really like him. After IVF 1 failed I asked him if there was any additional testing I needed and he said no. Well IVF 2 just failed- chemical. After I get my 2nd BETA tomorrow I'll probably speak with him and ask about the immune testing and any other testing again. I really don't think he does it though. So I will be looking for second opinions soon.

Talk to him about dr.pillitteri obgyn who after assessment refers to dr.alkady or dr.kofinas who are peri....somethings. They do the testing of thrombophilia, pcos, etc. I think he has a referral relationship w dr.pillitteri so he should know what he does to help women get pregnant.

Dr.pillitteri did a laparscopy on me, removed extensive endo, fibroids, etc. Plus now on metformin and aspirin to counteract mutation issues that cause implantation issues.

I text dr.pillitteri today to find out which re he recommends. I will post when I hear back. He told me in the past but I was already with rsny and didn't want to switch. Now that I have to pay for ivf..........well....

Dr Ruman who worked at RMA when I got PG 5 years ago, was willing to work with my immue Dr-who was actually in Chicago. Dr Kwak-Kim-she trained under Dr. Beer who was the pioneer.

Thanks Dr. Mom. I looked up RMA and it doesn't seem either doctor work there anymore and they only list one doctor for Long Island on their website.

Pilliterri works in conjunction with Braverman....he is not an RE but he knows a lot about immune issues.

Re: Re's who consider genetics n immunology issues

If you're unable to find an RE that works with your insurance and/or schedule, you might consider seeing a high risk doc that specializes in immune issues or a rheumotoligist or similar. I've had known autoimmune issues since childhood so when we struggled to get pregnant it was the first logical thought. I worked with the above noted doctors to confirm diagnosis and then I found an RE who was willing to treat based on those results. Most of the treatment options aren't really that outside the box for many REs (I found two different LI practices willing to treat with Lovenox, prednisone, etc base on my history - which is only borderline btw). HTH
