this is what we did - but at 3 months dd would gag on the level 2 so we kept her at level 1 for another few weeks

I didn't either. DD rarely had a bottle so it never really occurred to me. I remember trying to give her a bottle around 8 months and she only took an ounce or two before refusing so looking back I think she may have done better if I had switched by then. I didn't want to buy new nipples that late in the game for her rare bottle feedings so we stuck with the slow flow or a sippy but she didn't do well with either after that.

We went from level 2 to 3 at around 4 months. I was going to increase again, but my friend who BFs noted that her nipples aren't changing, so why should I need to change my bottles. Made perfect sense to me, so I have stuck with level 3s.

We will not switch from level 3 because that seems to be fast enough for DS and I expect him to be fully using sippy cups soon.

We never went past Level 2, and DD stayed on Level 1 till around 6 months I think. If your DC seems to be taking a long time to finish bottles, or seems to be getting frustrated during a feeding, you can try to go up a level .

Dont go by age go by your child... my dd didnt move onto medium nipple until like 6-7 months. And she never moved to fast.
I knew it was time when it was taking her 30 min to finish a bottle and she appeared to get aggravated with it. Switched and that stopped.
