TV before 2
I know the board of pediatrics said tv before 2 leads to ADHD. How accurate is this and what do you all do or think?
I know I was watching tv early on and I don't have ADHD. My husbands cousins all were watching Sesame Street since birth and one of them was reading by 2!

This for both boys. The TV was on for me mainly or background music/sounds when he was born.
Now he watches a couple of shows here and there. All the shows on Nick Jr and Disney Jr they honestly learned a lot

I do allow DD to watch some tv. Ironically, the only child I know who was not allowed to watch tv, at all - like not even be in the same room when the news was on - has severe ADHD. Probably coincidental, but I too agree that you have to take these studies with a grain of salt. I am a big believer of 'everything in moderation'.

Yes, I know someone like this too! They never even had the tv on for background noise. Unfortunately their dc has some attention issues at age 3.
I always have the tv on for at least some background noise, or for me. Dd doesn't really even look at it.

Thank you all...seriously you've made me feel better. As a ftm you hear all this stuff and I don't want to do any damage.
I have to have it on for background noise. It's isolating enough. I need some other human voices.

TV before 2
DD has been watching sesame street since around 9 months. I don't see any harm and I think she's learned a lot from it actually. The other day I counted to 12 for her and she continued on with 13 and 14 on her own! Then she looked to the tv and said "Elmo". She watches every an hour almost every morning and that's usually it for the day. She's 17 months.

I think a lot of the shows on now teach them.

OMG, without Bubble Guppies & Yo Gabba Gabba, my 18 month would never sit still
Both my sons watched it early on and they are a'ok

i think it depends on how you use it and how often. i dont think it causes adhd, some kids are already predisposed to it.
that said, we are a no tv household

since birth.. even have video of her watching Yellow Submarine.. no issues here either. Frankly I think its all about WHAT they watch. As she grew older, so did her 'attention span' but I hated the 30clips of cartoons on Disney and Nick. I needed her to watch long hour long plus things. So she learned to pay attention and retain what she watched as it told a story. A very long story. So I'd get her videos etc of education stuff.
So as far as the AD in ADHD, no.. I dont think TV by itself is the culprit. The HD part, well I think that's more to do with getting outside and BURNING energy. TV wasn't an alternative to play it was 'slow down' time. Id run her to the ground and generally she would sleep by the time whatever she was watching was over, if not during. And when she wasn't walking we'd use youtube videos to put her to sleep. Most commonly I'd only get through 3 cycles of "When I'm 64" when she'd fall asleep.
