Fever and hospital
At what point would you bring your baby to a hospital for a fever? Is there a cut off one should follow? And really what do they do there other than obv check for something major and maybe give infant tylenol?

Cant babies get colds that produce a fever? You cant do anything for an adult cold ...what gets done for baby cold?

How old is the baby? If they are less then 6 weeks I would DEFINATELY call my ped ASAP. Fever at this point is an automatic hospital admission.
How high is the fever that you even think there needs to be hospital intervention? I call my doctor if the temp rises above 103 and lasts for 24 hours so they rule out infections.

There is also PM pediatrics...I've never had to go, but I know the girls on here rave about them as an after hours/emergency pediatric office.

Like others say it depends on the age and degree of fever. But if I can't reduce the fever due to age or its just not working I would take her to a Late night Pediatrics. Rather safe than sorry.

I would call my ped for anything over 100.4 for my infant especially before he was vaccinated.

It really depends on how high the fever is and the age of the baby. Unless my child just had a vaccination, I'd call my dr for any fever. A very high fever can be dangerous and the hospital would bring it down and monitor the baby. Extreme fevers would be reason for additional testing to rule out more serious infections.

Call your ped.
DD had a 103 fever that was 103 at 2 hrs after Tylenol.
My ped was really concerned and gave ibuprofen on top and did blood work. DD needed antibiotics (got a call that night). It wasn't strep. Ped called us again next day.0
ETA: you can't do anything for a virus, but you give antibiotics for bacteria.

Back in June, my then 7 month old dd had a fever of 103 on a Tuesday. I called the doc Wednesday morning and bought her in. Basically, we did the wait it out thing with Tylenol and Motrin being given. He told me come Friday morning if she still wakes up with a fever to bring her in. Her temp was always above 102, even with meds. Friday morning came and he did a urine culture and immediately sent us to Winthrop, my dd was admitted with a UTI and kidney infection and spent 4 days in the hospital. Lesson learned with any baby...I will NEVER do the wait it out for more than 24 hours! If a baby has a fever that high and even with Tylenol and/or Motrin it's not coming down to somewhat normal, I'm all for going right away! My poor baby could have been on antibiotics 4 days sooner, but I absolutely don't blame the doc for waiting at all, it's just a lesson I learned and I will not let it happen or wait that long ever again! my one year old had a 105 and we went to PM ped and they didnt even send us to hospital. They ran a bunch of test there and everything came nack clear so they said it was just a virus and we just had to give her meds every 4 hours.
We ended up taking her to SB er ourselves and they didnt do anything either... just gave her pedialyte
