What do you do when your kid barely eats dinner?
There are nights when DS barely touches what is on his plate. I don't want to get into the habit of offering him something else. He gets what we get.

Is he eating well during the day?
My son can be the same way, but they feed them pretty well at daycare/preschool. So I'll offer dinner, if he doesn't want fine and then I'll offer a yogurt and fruit for dessert.

My son has days where he eats a lot and days where he eats very little, the days he eats a little he usually takes more milk, I try not to stress bc I figure it balances out

I cry. Lol no but seriously meals are such a struggle in my house it has become the bane of my existence for sure. My son only eats like 7 things and even still fights them. Dr said he's growing and doing great so I try not to let it comsume me, I know tons of others are going through it too which makes me feel like I'm not a total failure

What do you do when your kid barely eats dinner?
If DD refuses the dinner I've made for her, I won't make another meal, but I do offer her cereal, yogurt, fruit.
If she refuses that too, then that's it. She can have her milk before bed and go to bed hungry.

I won't worry about it. DS is usually a good eater (eats a large variety of items). If he doesn't eat well one day he usually makes up for it the next.

Sometimes they just aren't hungry. If it gets to be close to bedtime and DD still hasn't eaten anything, I'll offer applesauce or a cereal bar.

But then there are times she eats like crazy.

I won't make them something different. I may offer some milk, fruit or a cereal bar but I don't stress it.

I do this too. I offer what we are having for dinner which lately he always refuses. Then I offer cottage cheese and fruit which he does gobble up. As long as he's not eating junk, I'm ok with offering a healthy alternative but there's no way I'm cooking another meal.

I try not to offer her alternative but it's tough with a 17 months old that you can't exactly reason with. I will usually defrost some peas for her since she'll usually eat that or I'll sometimes give her a pouch. I like the earth's best veggie and protein pouches to get some protein into her.

agreed. My ped said never to force a child to eat. He said as long as she gets 2 good meals in, it's fine.
I don't stress it. Many nights she doesn't eat well at dinner time.

Same here! I've given up, I won't nag. If she eats great if not she won't starve. Sometimes she eats a lot and other days she won't even come in the kitchen to eat dinner.

This. This is what my DD's ped recommended. My DD is at the top of the weight chart. She's a great eater for breakfast and lunch and sometimes isn't very hungry for dinner. Dr said don't force and or offer a substitution. She is probably just leveling out her daily intake. However, there are days that I know her afternoon snack was little too late or she drank her milk before dinner and that's why she's not hungry, so I try to be mindful of that.

My boys do this frequently - their meals get worse throughout the day (breakfast is the best, lunch is the middle and dinner is the worst).

Ditto. Dd is a pain for lunch and dinner. Today she hardly ate her dinner, so I offered her a banana, which she ate. She almost always makes up for it at breakfast

This, but also keep offering different things. Last month my 2 year old twins would not eat chili. This month it is a hit. One likes peanut butter, the other doesn't. I still offer it to both.
