Ice Cream Cup, Cookies, Package Dessert at lunch???

I was going over our parent portal that our district has and noticed AJ's Cafeteria plan. I had upped our automatic increase. When it falls under $10 it will automatically increase our balance.

So just looking at it and I noticed

Ice cream cup (Wed)
Packaged Dessert (Monday, last Wed, Thurs and Friday)
Small Cookies (tuesday)
And ironcally "Water, small" on Wed ($0.55)

All items are considered Alacarte..

Not that the money is the issue (its like $0.40-$0.55 each) but wait.. whoa..

My kindergartener has an option for JUNK FOOD? seriously? Lunch is on our menu and yes she can choose between the standard and alternative (which I like) and she is required to choose a fruit and veggie with every meal.

But I would think they wouldnt allow the 5yrs olds to choose cookies and crap at school at whim. I didn't even realize they HAD those there!

I ask her every day what she ate for lunch (we've been in school since Aug 26th). I want to see which ones she won't eat so if we need to send in lunch we can. So far she won't touch the enchilladas or Alfredo pasta but the options on those two days are successes. The day when the option is a baked potato is the only day we worry about but the main meal is something she'll eat. But she (sneaky kid) never told me she was eating cookies and ice cream!

Texas is one of those states who records BMIs for all students (even in Kinder) and will send home a note (incorrectly called a fat note) to parents if the children's BMI is deemed unhealthy. But you give her cookies and ice cream as options?

What is 'packaged dessert'? Is it because my kid want and extra fruit or veggie?

I'm not really worried about her weight since god knows she BURNS calories like a steam engine at school!

I was just taken a back that I wasn't told this was an option or that the kinder kids can so easily access it.

Not upset
Not going to lecture her
But I am curious

Do you think I should email the cafeteria manager to see what a package dessert is?

I volunteered for our school's bake sale which occurs in the cafeteria. I can't even tell you how many kids I saw with junk like ice cream on their lunch tray. Guess what got thrown in the trash? The lunch! I was shocked they are allowed to buy junk. I don't do a lunch account for my dd. I send in the cost of the lunch only on the days she buys (usually just Friday)
