food question

Honestly I never broke it down. Just so long as my ds was getting plenty of fruits an veggies I was fine.

Same here, I've never come across a recommended breakdown, nor has our ped ever mentioned it. We just try to make sure they are eating balanced meals and healthy snacks.

Re: food question

I am lucky she eats anything at all.
Period.
If I had to worry about breaking things down by fractions and ratios, I'd end up in a mental hospital! Chat Icon

Same with DS 1 - DS 2 is a little more flexible but, still limited.

Re: food question

My ped gave us a handout with feeding guidelines. But, it also states that they are merely guidelines, and eating more or less is perfectly normal....

Milk- 4 servings (1 serving= 1/2 cup milk or yogurt or 1/2 oz. cheese or 1/4 cup cottage cheese)

Grain- 6 servings (1 serving= 1/4 cup rice, pasta, or cereal or 1/2 slice of bread or roll or 2 crackers)

Fruit- 2 servings (1 serving= 1/4 cup or 1/2 medium fruit)

Veggies- 3 servings (1 serving= 1/4 cup)

Protein- 2 servings (1 serving= 1 oz of meat or fish or 1/4 cup beans or 1 egg)

Re: food question

I was never told anything by the ped either. I don't really pay attention. I just try to get some fruit and a veggie in every day. Other than that, it's whatever he will eat!
