Mirena anyone?
Any feedback? Thinking about ditching BC and getting the IUD. Insertion/removal/side effect, etc..

Mirena anyone?
After my 1st I had paragaurd put it, it's one of the 2 IUD's out there... The one without hormones. I loved it! Insertion was under 5 mins and pretty painless, definitely some pressure and stinging but nothing bad. My first period was horrendous, I couldn't leave the house or 3 days. No joke, crime scene status! Changing a super pad every 45 mins. But I will say after that first doozie, it went back to normal, if not lighter and shorter actually. Kept it in for almost 2 years, couldn't have been happier. Removal was even easier than insertion, quick. Oh, one last thing... You gotta get it inserted on your period, not fun lol.

yes i had mirena for 3 years. Took it out in February before conceiving baby 3 in April.
I loved it. no complaints.. insertion was quick and removal was even easier.
Periods were light, almost non existent.

Not to hijack but I was going to post a similar quesiton.
Any of you ladies who have or had it- did you notice any issues like with hormonal BC pills- like weight gain, mood swings etc?
Also- and i know this is probalby a silly question- but a lot of people say they don't get their period at all while on it.
So how would you know if you were pregnant? I know that there is failure rates on all BC and I feel like not getting a period would have me freaking out and peeing on a stick every other week!

i had it put in last tuesday. by wednesday something was stabbing me from the inside. went back to the doctor and he said the nylon strings had popped out. he tucked them back behind my cervix and i went home. that night i had the same stabbing feeling again. the strings had popped out again and were practically hanging out. i gave a slight tug and the mirena was out. so frustrating. i am now on the mini pill.

I've had mine for a year now. I did not have any weight gain. My mood didnt change- i still PMS as bad as before LOL
My doc told me that he had a patient who wanted hers removed simply bc she didn't get periods anymore and was constantly worried about pregnancy... She had no side effects. It worked perfectly for her but her anxiety made her take it out. As for me, I still get periods... They are pretty much on a set schedule, but are MUCH lighter now... But this is just recent as for a couple months ago... So it can take a while for your body to regulate to it.

i didnt have weight gain.. I had less hormonal swings than when on birth control but only in the beginning.
During the first year i would take a pregnancy test every few months even though the odds i were pregnant were less than that of bc. i finally stopped- i know the mirena was working just like birth control.. i would get a VERY light period every few months that lasted a day or two and with a panti liner thats all i needed..
