Jewish mothers who had a baby naming for dd come on in
Our dd is having her baby naming in less than a month. What was yours like? Did you do anything special?
Ours will be at our temple followed by a brunch but I wanted to add some special touches just not sure what.

Ours was pretty basic. Just the naming during Shabbat services, followed by a nice luncheon. My SIL made centerpieces, but we didn't do anything else for it. What kinds of things are you thinking about doing? I have been to ones where there were favors. My friend used two rolls of Smarties candies wrapped in paper to make Torah scrolls with her DD's name on it. My other friend's sister made a CD of popular songs that could be baby related, and gave it out at the shower.

If it's a private ceremony, is your rabbi or cantor giving you the option to speak about the names you are giving dd? About who she is named after and your hopes/dreams/a blessing for her?

Re: Jewish mothers who had a baby naming for dd come on in
We first named her in temple (neither I nor the baby were actually present at this naming, Dh and the grandparents went). We then had a private naming/simchat bat for our firends and extended family with DH's family rabbi. After he had done the prayers and blessings, DH gave a speeech about who she was named after and the meaning behind the hebrew name itself. If you are doing the naming during the temple service you can always give the speech to your guests at lunch. We had a lunch afterwards, centerpieces were ballloons, ordered a cake from costco with her hebrew name on it (just had to write it out on the order sheet) and had chocolate lollipops made.

Re: Jewish mothers who had a baby naming for dd come on in
I have boys, but have been to many between my nieces and cousins, friends, etc.
Pretty much what the others said... Whoever wanted to come to the temple came and after was a nice brunch either at a home or at a catering hall. My sister didn't do favors, but a cousin did cute pink lollipops at the tables. It was pretty much like a Christening.
For my boy's Bris we had some cute candy out for people or kids to take. Blue gum cigars in a basket, blue lollipops, and other blue candy like a candy station.
ETA - we also had a speech thanking everyone and saying how blessed we are. Explained the Hebrew name and who the boys were named for, etc. Balloons, cute baby boy decorations, some pics of the baby placed around when he was born... a Bris is a week later so not too many to show. LOL

Re: Jewish mothers who had a baby naming for dd come on in
we didn't really do any special touches for dd's because 1. it wasnt at my usual synagogue with any of the rabbis that I was familiar with and 2. it was just the grandparents and uncles who attended. We had services at the shul (private service) and there we did special touches- discussing why we chose her hebrew name and our wishes for her journey in life... and then we sang songs... this rabbi basically did all of this. It was very short. Afterwards we went to brunch at a nice restaurant. Then everyone held DD and took "formal" pictures with her. That was it.

We did a private ceremony in our home. We were able to talk about the names we gave her. Afterwards, everyone stayed for bagels and lox and such.
I made some chocolate lollipops although it was just family and not needed.

Ours will be a private ceremony of a sunday at the temple I grew up at. My rabbi who has since retired is coming back for it. We will get to talk about who she is named after (my mom and dh's brother). Grandparents will get to be in the service. After we are having a nice brunch through the temple caterer. I already ordered balloons.
Thanks for the input. I def want a cake with her Hebrew name, pink candy cigars and other link candies. Will also have pictures of her around the room in cheap frames.
