car seat question

Someone told my dh that you cannot use a car seat from the first child for the 2nd child. Is this true? Also that they expire? My travel system is from 2010 and I hardly used the car seat.

car seat question

Most car seats have an expiration date, but I believe it is 5-6 years. I don't see why you can't use a car seat from 2010. However, I will say that maybe they have come out with safer equipment since then? I don't know though...just a thought.

I thought of that too. Maybe I can look up a rating on old car seats. I just hate to have to throw it away its like brand new.

Re: car seat question

There is an expiration date on car seats. You have to look in the manual or call the manufacturer to find out.

I believe when I called Chicco to inquire they told me 5 years. Also there should be a sticker on the car seat saying when it was made.

car seat question

I am about to have baby #3. I used my infant carseat for DS 1 and 2. They are 2.5 years apart. I recently looked at the seat and stamped into the bottom plastic it states do not use this carseat after Nov. 1, 2013. It is a graco snugride. The seat is 6 years old. I had to get a brand new one for this baby.
In the end while the seat looks in great condition, I wasn't willing to take a chance with either safety or insurance issues for an expired seat.

You can use the seat - most seats have an expiration of 5 or 6 years. Look on the back of the seat to see the date. If you have any questions , call the seat manufacturers number on the side of the seat for specifics on their policy and that particular seat.
