These non-drop side cribs

So, the last time I bought a crib for my DC, it was a drop side, as they were still available then. I need a new crib for my DS on the way, as my DD had destroyed the crib we had for our other 2...literally has broken the bolts off both sides!!

I've been looking at the new cribs, and frankly, they scare me. I'm afraid that my baby will be able to climb out of it before he is 2 years old, since the whole top of the crib is now lower. I know there are different height adjustments for the mattress, but it still seems like the distance between the lowest setting of the mattress, and the top rail is so short.

Both of my DDs were right just before 3 when they were able to climb out, and I just don't want DS learning how to do it at 2!

I'm pretty sure dropside cribs are illegal in ny now.
We have a convertable crib and it is sturdy and we haven't had any problems.

Trying something new can be scary, but today's cribs are fine. Get the book Baby Bargains and read up on the cribs the book recommends.

I don't let the kids hang out in the cribs. When they wake up, they make noise and I get them out... DS who is truly naughty and climbs everything never had incentive to climb out: he usually yells for me.

DS climbed out at 18 mths...he did it twice, first time he was fine and second time he bumped his head. After that we switched to the toddler bed. I know there are netting things you can buy to try to prevent it - not sure how well they work though.

I think it really depends on the kid. My DS is almost 2 and has never even attempted to get out yet. He is a daredevil so I am honestly surprised but the mattress is low and he would have to launch himself out.

And there really are not other options anyway.

I have a tall 27 month old...she has yet to even think of climbing out of the crib, though she easily could if she tried. I think every child is different...my DH climbed out of his crib at 11 months old And I was younger than 2 when I did it. DD is just content to stand there and call for me til I come.

My first crib was a drop side (our first kids are the same age) and I rarely dropped it down.

The other two cribs were stationary and if anything I felt that the crib mattress was lower, because I felt like I was throwing them in by the time the reached the lowest setting on the mattress .

My first two kids were out of cribs between 3 and 3.5 and never climbed out and I had bumpers until the end. I also let them hang out in there.

My third is 2.5 yrs old, still in the crib, also never climbed out.

I really think it depends on the child and if they are going to climb out or not. My SIL has 3 kids also and none of them climbed out of the crib.

I know what you mean. I never had a drop side crib bc dd is my first. But she's very tall for her age and at only 11 months old she already seems very tall compared to the railing. It does seem that by 2 she'll be plenty tall to climb out. I was thinking maybe I can turn the crib around so the shorter front railing is against the wall and the higher back part is in the front, but that would still leave the sides free so I'm not sure.

My DD started to climb out of the crib around 21 months, at 22 months is when I switched her to a bed. I was just too nervous of her getting hurt.
