Newborn crying, cluster feeding
My DD is almost 5 wks old and for the last few days she has been cluster feeding and crying alot. She used to nurse for 45 min and then pass out for 3-4 hrs. Now she's nursing for 1-2 hrs, not falling asleep and then crying whenever I try to stop nursing her. It takes a long time to soothe her to sleep and then when we try to put her down she wakes right up crying to eat again.
Is this normal? Will it pass? I have plenty of frozen breastmilk and DH keeps encouraging me to give her a bottle so I can get some sleep, but I'm afraid if I don't nurse her on demand my supply won't meet her growing needs
Any advice?

One or two bottles will not affect your supply. I think you need your sanity in order to keep it up, so I say go ahead and give her the bottle. I certainly wouldn't do it all the time since then it will impact your supply, but an occasional bottle will not. I did the same thing when DD would get really fussy. And yes, of course this will pass!

Oh, and maybe try a pacifier. I think 5 weeks is old enough and that bf'ing has been established enough.

Agree with this!! If you need to give a bottle once and get a 4 hour stretch of sleep, that will not harm your supply.
There were days I literally...and I mean literally...had my DD at the breast ALL DAY LONG. It was very frustrating but it is normal and it will pass.
You're doing a great job!!

I agree with PP. If you want to give a bottle on occasion to get a break then go for it. DD did the same from time to time and it was exhausting but it did pass after a day or two. It could definitely be a growth spurt.
