BF moms of 1 YO , cutting down on nursing and weaning off slowly , please share your experiance
As I mentioned in my other post I'm trying to wean DS off slowly , he drinks CM now and eats everything we offer. I have cut down a lot, he mostly BF in the morning and at night before bed and then during the night( yes he still wakes up at night to eat at least 1-2x ) Here is a thing though ,I don't want to stop BF completely just yet, but I'm afraid that if I only feed him am & pm my milk will dry up. Or am I wrong? I didn't BF DD this long, only 8 months and had to stop cold turkey because I was sick and on meds. Should I just keep doing what I'm doing or should I be pumping in between ?

My dd is 15 months and I am still nursing her morning and night only. I don't pump in between. No issues with supply when I went down to those two nursings, I did it slowly cutting one session at a time until I was down to those two.

I just weaned DD a few days before she turned 16 months. She had been at 3 sessions a day (plus any time she woke at night). Maybe around 14 months I cut out the afternoon session and she really was fine with it. I did the morning session next which was a little harder. I had DH get up with her, she would drink her milk while watching sesame street and then he would give her breakfast. I stayed in my bedroom until after she was done with breakfast for maybe 4 days and after that she was fine.
As far as nighttime, I wasn't sure how long I wanted to continue. Around 15 months she finally started sttn pretty consistently. She was also exhausted at the end of the day and passing out within a few minutes of nursing. Between the very limited nursing and AF showing, my supply went down to almost nothing. At that point, DD wasn't getting much nutrition or comfort from nursing and started having all kinds of sleep problems so I fully weaned her. We did CIO at the same time and she did great and hasn't woken at night since.

I found my supply was dropping a lot after 12 months. Went to morning and night nursing but really he wasn't getting that much milk at that point (he had dry diapers overnight). He would suck and suck but I could tell it was more comfort then nutrition. I slowly weaned down from that point to just night time, then off completely over the period of a month.
