Too much sleep?

I know I shouldn't question this, but can a baby sleep too much?

DS is 4 months old. He goes to sleep around 7:30 and we wake him at 6:30 AM to eat. He then goes in for a nap around 8:30-10:00 and naps again from 11:30-12:30. Then he usually naps from 2-3:30.

He will then take a catnap in the late afternoon for around 45 minutes.

There are definitely naps that I have to wake him from to eat.

I never thought I would ask this, but do you think this is too much sleep?

Re: Too much sleep?

Never to much sleep. Is there a reason you wake him at 6:30 to eat?

Never too much sleep, and unless he is on the smaller side or medically needs to, I would not be waking him in the morning.

I wouldn't wake him in the morning to eat either. of course unless your doctor is having you do that for weight issues or something. I'd let him sleep until he wakes on his own

Re: Too much sleep?

I was waking him in the morning so I can get in 5 feedings for the day (every 3 hours). He was having trouble gaining weight so I wanted him to get to eat at least 5 times a day. He doesn't wake to eat on his own.

He is eating at
6:30
9:30
12:30
3:30
6:30

Don't wake the poor kid. Mine is 4m too. She sleeps from 730/8-630/730. Per her daycare schedule she naps 9-1005, 1245-110 and 215-305. She will usually nap for about 30-45mins starting about 5/530.

I have a 4.5 month old... we have his feedings spread out every 4 hours. Maybe try to do every four hours but just more ozs between those four feedings...

Too much sleep?

Mine eats 2-4ozs at 6am (daycare) then 6-7ozs every 3hrs. Doesn't always finish the last bottle.

Re: Too much sleep?

Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of increasing the amount and cutting down to 4 feedings a day. I'm still trying to nurse and supplement and get my supply back.

My little one nurses in the AM before I leave for work; has 4 bottles at day care (every 3 hours) and then typically nurses when I get home and right before bed. So he's on 6-7 feedings a day plus solids.

I would probbaly let him sleep during that 6:30 am feeding since he's not waking on his own for it; and then just up the ounces in the bottles for the feedings the rest of the day. You can always pump or hand express in between feedings to up your supply
