We have a step 2 kitchen and it is great. For pots and pans Ikea has an adorable metal set, and my kids love the fridge/pantry food sets from melissa and doug.
As for a ride on, it depends upon your budget and the size you want for your DC.

DS does not have a kitchen set so I'm no help there but for his 1year b day he got a battery operated quad. It was the middle fo Dec so it sat for a bit but we broke it out inthe spring so he was about 15 months. he loved it in the house but is just getting used to riding it outside. Its the Power Wheels Bat man one. We had a small ride on theing that swtiched to a walker/push toy. He wanted no part of it after he learned to walk (9 months).

omg ikea's little pots are too cute!!
I really don't have a budget, necessarily. dd's 1st bday is November so i'm thinking of things for her bday and Christmas to last her throughout the year
