It got lowered for the first time when they were able to pull themselves up and then it got lowered again to the lowest level when they started (and succeeded) to try and climb out. It was different ages for all of my kids.

We always had DS on the lowest setting. He started cruising at 6 months so he has been able to stand since we put him in.

At 5 months we had to lower DS's crib and rather than lower it to the middle setting then, and then the lowest a few months later, we decided just to put it on the lowest setting then. And I'm glad I did b/c DS is 6.5 months now and already pulling himself up to stand. It's too much effort to lower it twice in 2 months!
