brushing a 2 YO's teeth
ok so my DD reluctantly lets me brush her teeth, and now I've tried to introduce the concept of toothpaste and rinsing/spitting. how did you go about this? i modeled it for her multiple times but so far she just swallows. also, what toothpaste is appropriate for a 2 year old???
thanks.

My son is 3 and he can't really rinse/spit yet. we use a baby toothpaste or the Honest Co. one- with no fluoride. As long as she lets you brush her teeth- she will be fine.

DD is 3 and she is just starting to get the rinse and spit concept. I would not worry about your DC swallowing as long as you use flouride free toddler toothpaste.

Re: brushing a 2 YO's teeth
Best thing to use is kiddie toothpaste w/o fluoride, but WITH XYLITOL. It's a natural sweetener (so it's tasty) but it's also a natural disinfectant or something like that. So it actually kills germs while teaching them to brush. And no need to spit it out... at 2, they're too young to get it anyway. Try Spry... we've used it and flavors are tasty!

Re: brushing a 2 YO's teeth
2yo is just too young IMO to expect them to spit & rinse. DS1 didnt use the floride toothpaste until about 3.5yo. DS2 is 2 now and his version of spitting is leaning over hte sink and opening his mouth wide, but nothing comes out.

Re: brushing a 2 YO's teeth
DS will be 3 next month and he still doesn't understand the concept of spitting. He swallows the toothpaste almost immediately so we still use training toothpaste... I think it's Oral-B? With Thomas the Train on it. We tried a minty one with Sesame Street characters on it, but he hated it... he prefers the fruity taste.
