MMR and Booster

My son received the MMR shot at 18 months. Days after he had two febrile seizures and than a month later another one. Now, he did end up having a bad ear infection right after the shot.

He is now 4 1/2 and needs the booster. If your child suffers from febrile seizures how did they react to the booster MMR? I'm so nervous!! TIA for any info.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for but, you absolutely do not have to give him the booster now. If you get bloodwork done it will 99.999% say he is completely still immune - and you can hand that in to the school nurse and it is just as good as proof of the immunization. And, he actually is still immune and so what is the point of giving him the booster when he is still so young and still susceptible to the seizures. Buy yourself some time and likely a much muted reaction.

Actually, I know this because my first had what I considered to be a bad reaction to the first MMR (although not as bad as what you described) and, he had it late - 2.5 yrs. I talked to the ped and he gave me the bloodwork idea. worked fine and I have yet to give him the booster (he is almost 6).

Good luck - it's not an easy decision. Chat Icon

Thank you SO much for this information! I had no idea and will be speaking with my ped about this option. I just don't want my son to have to go through the febrile seizures again!
