We are so all over the map. We would live some infI on Massapequa. We travel there frequently however for dining. Lol. I'd love more info on the different areas. We are particular interested in the massapequa and plainedge SDs. Tia

Re: Massapequa Area info needed
I don't live there but am there all the time since it's the next town over and SIL just bought in Massapequa Park.
I think the only area to be mindful of is East Massapequa (near the mall, and south of Sunrise/Merrick near Carmen's Rd.).
I believe this is Amityville School District and while I do not like being one of *those people*, some people do look down upon it because of the diversity.
DH also parks his trucks and has his supplies on a lot off Carmen's and there is a lot of sketchiness over there..... drug activity and one of those no-tell motels where this stuff goes down. He's seen many bad things go down over there, and has been approached by people for some bad things.
Interestingly enough, the people I know who live in any part of the Massapequa SD plan to send their kids to private/Catholic schools anyway, including SIL.

Re: Massapequa Area info needed
Feel free to contact me with specific question, as well! I do a lot of work in southeast Nassau, and grew up in Seaford.
Massapequa - Plainedge SD has become a "hot" area lately. I have a house in contract there and recently sold a house there.
Taxes in Plainedge SD tend to be high (even higher than surrounding areas). Plainedge SD is a small district, Massapequa is a larger one, drawing from a large geographic area (and is a bit odd in that it's 9th grade students are in a separate building than 10-12). There are areas of north Massapequa and Mass Park that are zoned for Farmingdale schools, too, so you would want to consider whether you are open to those areas.
And then there's south Massapequa, which was hit hard by Sandy and so many people are currently not considering. But traditionally, south Massapequa (areas like Old Harbor Green, Biltmore Shores, Nassau Shores) were more affluent than other areas of Massapequa, which have a more middle-class feel (kind of like south Merrick and south Bellmore v. north Merrick and north Bellmore).
I think it's a great area, though - near lots of parks, beaches, highways, good LIRR commute (on the Babylon train line).

Re: Massapequa Area info needed
I don't know if that was aimed at me, but I never said "a lot" if it was......I am only talking about people I know personally (about 4 couples) and they are people who would not be utilizing the public school system regardless of where they lived.

I live in the area and I'm surprised at the number of people who live in Massapequa SD and send their kids to private school. It's more than I expected.

Massapequa Area info needed
I grew up in Massapequa....south of Merrick...I went to Catholic school (St. Rose, then Catholic HS), my brother went to Fairfield, Berner and Massapequa HS. My parents did what was best for each of us...we both got a great education, yet, I feel my education was a bit better, but this was back in the 90's.

Re: Massapequa Area info needed
Sorry I meant a lot of people do use the public schools. Im sorry if I misinterpreted but when someone says everyone they know sends their kids to private school it sounds like its the majority.

Re: Massapequa Area info needed
DH grew up there and we live in the area now. I love Massapequa! I run and bike the preserve all the time and there's a bunch of great restaurants and stuff. I love my neighborhood. I don't have kids so I don't know about the schools but DH liked growing up there and went to public all the way up. I would prefer private HS, but only because I personally think the HS is a bit big for me but again I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
