Amanda Bynes' parents file for conservatorship, judge delays decision
Though she remains under a psychiatric hold, Amanda Bynes hasn't had to legally surrender all of her independence — yet. Bynes' parents, Rick, 68, and Lynn, 66, appeared in front of a judge Friday in Oxnard, Calif., during a hearing in which their attorney explained that the reason they applied for a conservatorship over their daughter was because they feared she would be released following a 72-hour hold, People reports. The hold was set to expire Thursday.
Around the time Rick and Lynn filed their application for conservatorship on Thursday, a judge extended the psychiatric hold for up to two weeks. The judge in Friday's hearing, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Glen M. Reiser, stated that because Bynes, 27, is under the 14-day hold, which began Monday after she allegedly started a fire in a stranger's driveway, there is no need to rush a decision regarding conservatorship. Raiser set a new hearing for Aug. 9, when he hopes the former child star would be present in court, facilitated by her court-appointed attorney, according to People.
Newsday
Glad she's being held for 14 days. But I think it's a shame the parents weren't give conservatorship. I she doesn't walk into court in 2 weeks and talk her way out of what's been happening.

Re: Amanda Bynes' parents file for conservatorship, judge delays decision
This whole story is just incredibly sad, disturbing and troubling to me. To see her father in some of the photos I saw earlier today and the worry just written across his face is heartbreaking. I can only imagine as a parent how difficult it must be.
Amanda, from what has been said, seems to suffer from a serious mental illness ( schizophrenia) and yet because she is of age there seems to be so little anyone outside can do....it's just so troublesome. We hear in the news parents NOT stepping up to help or save someone until it's too late and the child is either dead or does something horrific and fingers are pointed and blame discussed over why didn't someone step up to help. But here in this case and I'm sure in others where the parents DO try and step in to help, it is clearly EXTREMELY difficult to do so and an uphill battle.
For Amanda's sake I really hope the judges and doctors find a way to get her the help and proper living arrangement she seems to so desperately need... before she harms herself or someone else.

I'm really surprised it wasn't granted right away. I hope they decide to grant conservatorship!

It's very sad. You hear so many people say "where are the parents, why aren't they helping, how come they haven't stepped up". As we can see it's not that easy when the child is an adult.

I am glad she is finally getting help. I've thought for months that she was either Schizophrenic or Bipolar. Quite frankly, I feel the way the paparazzi documented her spiral is disgusting. Celebrity gossip is fun, but this girl was clearly mentally ill.

I hope she gets the help that she needs.
I have a colleague going through this right now with his own son and the entire family is paying their life savings to get him help privately, and sadly, they don't have faith that will even help with our "broken system".
And then I think of the millions of people in the same situation that don't have access to $$$$.......
