we are thinking about telling our immediate families this weekend (i will be 11wks). but part of me wants to wait longer.

first, i'd like to wait till after the NT ultrascreen ....but the real reason is that...things are peaceful now. only DH and I know and its our little secret.

i just think once we share the news, we will start getting lots of questions/advice/ideas that i am just not ready for. lol.

is that selfish? anyone else feel this way?

i also realize i cant keep this secret for long, b/c i am clearly looking fatter....and if i were on the other side, i would probably be upset someone waited so long to tell me.

not sure what we are going to do.....

I told my sister right after I peed on the stick (after DH of course).

Told my parents later that day and ILs after I had my blood test back a few days later.

I never felt like I should have waited. It took me 2 years to get to that point and I would have told the bum on the street.

I wish I could shout it from the rooftops but DH wants to wait until after my first appt which is next Friday morning.

I did tell my sister, her bf, a co-worker, and some friends. I just couldn't keep it a secret from everyone lol.

Re: did anyone NOT want to tell their family? or wish they waited longer?

whatever you're comfortable with is totally your call. There's no rules. With my first pregnancy I waited until 12 weeks to tell everybody, just to make sure it was a keeper (since I had experienced 3 chemicals before that). I was happy when people knew because things almost slipped way too often. And even then, there were a couple people who were annoyed I waited 3 whole months to tell them. I was like "you expected me to call you while peeing on the stick?" lol. 12 weeks is a totally normal timeframe to wait. But I know some people wait even longer than that sometimes. I've heard announcements as late as 20 weeks. In fact, a friend JUST announced hers today "We're expecting a boy in December". (although I assume she told her parents & sisters earlier). Whatever works for you though!

With this one I am BEYOND anxious to tell people already, but I'm only 6wks so I definitely want to wait a bit longer. I've almost slipped several times and I'll feel so bad if loved ones find out like that. It needs to be special, not 'woops! didn't mean to say that' Chat Icon

we only told my parents and ILs right away, and then didnt tell anyone else until we were 13 weeks. its a personal choice, but coming from suffering a loss, we opted to wait as long as possible.

Our immediate friends and family knew after our first appt. I didn't come out on FB til 17 weeks.

I am lucky and haven't had any unsolicited advice or questions and love being pregnant!

We told our immediate families right after the pregnancy was confirmed by a blood test - only a day after I POAS...and I feel guilty that I waited so long to tell them! Chat Icon Chat Icon

That being said, if you want to wait until after the NT scan, I think that's fine since I'm assuming it's only a week or so away. I'm sure you aren't obviously pregnant yet or could easily hide it with a flowy shirt so I wouldn't focus on that.

I felt that way. I liked having it just between us for a little while. Immediate family didn't know until 14+ weeks (and I felt no urgency to tell them, I could have waited longer but wanted to tell them when we saw them in person since my brother & my inlaws live far).

I wish I waited longer with our last pregnancy because we lost that one. The reactions/ advice were not what I expected, and the non-support left me feeling worse.

Yes, exactly why I waited as well. When I was pregnant the first time I made my announcement to family right away and then lost it before 6wks. The worst thing was when my parents asked me multiple times if I had REALLY been pregnant. To downplay the awful pain I felt with the loss made it 100X worse (even though I know that wasn't their intention). I never told them about the other 2 chemicals I had after that, which is why I waited until 12wks to tell them about my pregnancy with DD#1 and will wait again with this one until about that same time.

I'm sorry you also experienced a loss and that you didn't get the support needed during that time Chat Icon

Do whatever u feel comfortable with... We told my parents at 6 weeks and told immediate family after we heard the heartbeat... I wanted to scream it from the rooftop lol! We waited till 12 weeks to tell friends.

People are going to offer advice and put in their 2 cents whether u tell them now or tell them weeks from now... I've noticed that everyone has something to say lol
