BTDT mamas who had GD?
So I failed a second 3 hour test miserably and am now monitoring my sugar every 4 hours. I am keeping a log but I am nervous about my DR appt tomorrow since I have had a handful of high numbers. If it cannot be controlled, I will need to go on medication (Metformin or Glyburide)...Has anyone had go on meds when they had GD? Any experiences?

I had GD with both pregnancies but was diet controlled. This is probably a dumb question but have you modified your diet yet? The nutritionist will evaluate what/when you're eating and help you with that.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It's annoying but definitely can be managed.

Re: BTDT mamas who had GD?
Hey there. I figured id jump in here. GD cant always be controlled with diet. I am one of those. I actually completely stopped eating carbs adn my am numbers were still higher than the doc wanted them to be. I was intially startedon glyburide and it worked well, but for me it made me swing- low to high. My doc then sent me to the specialist who put me on insulin. I had so much control adn was able to really control my sugars well on it. I eventually went on two insulins and had to be in contact with the specialist often (mainly dieticians), and we monitored my diet and my numbers. I did really well, monitored my weight gain as well and due to not gaining much, lost the weight quickly. It is doable, and manageable. If you have any questions, concerns, or someone to alk to, feel free to fm me..

I agree with seeing a dietician...I love the one that I saw and she was extremely knowledgeable and helped me to plan my meals well to keep my sugars where we wanted them. I also love my endocrinologist too!

BTDT mamas who had GD?
I was on metformin to get pregnant and my maternal fetal medicine dr kept ne on it throughout my pregnancy because I was diagnosed with insulin resistance years ago.

I have already modified my diet and see a nutritionist biweekly.
My concern is regarding medication if diet alone is not enough.

I was put on Metformin a million years ago for IR, but it did not help because my endo said I was borderline. I didn't need the Metformin to conceive, though. I meet with an MFM next week. Thank you

Thank you! So far I'm up and down the same 5 lbs, so there's not weight gain concern yet, but despite my best efforts I'm still getting some high readings. I don't even feel like I'm eating enough because I'm trying to eat so strictly

Re: BTDT mamas who had GD?
I was already on Metformin and had to take insulin at the end of my PG to control my sugars. It sucks, not going to lie. Try to control it as best you can with diet. A few high numbers probably won't be an issue. They look more for a pattern. It took a few weeks of issues before I had to start the insulin. Before that they had me do things with my diet to try to control it.

Re: BTDT mamas who had GD?
How is your morning number? If that is high they will put you in meds...since its fasting there is nothing you can really do about it. Luckily with DD it was all diet controlled but towards the end of my pregnancy it was harder to control

Re: BTDT mamas who had GD?
Towards the end of my pregnancy I was on glyburide. Took it once every night to help control the next morning's fasting. I first started on the lowest dosage and went up once with 2 weeks to go.
I did a ton of reading and asked a lot of questions. I was getting really stressed about my numbers and the effect it could have on DC, to the point of making myself sick. Once the glyburide helped the numbers stay down, I felt a thousand times better and it felt like one less thing to worry over.
Good luck!

Ahh, you didn't say that in the first post. Good luck with your numbers!

Re: BTDT mamas who had GD?
I had to go on Glyburide too. I modified my diet and controlled most of my numbers except my morning number. It really was not bad at all and like PP said, made me feel less worried!

Re: BTDT mamas who had GD?
I would go on insulin before any oral meds. I stopped my Metformin at 10 weeks and didn't need any insulin until the very end (only 4 units at bedtime) and didn't want any oral meds b/c they cross the placenta. It was a bit of a PITA but I felt it was the best choice for me/the baby.
