IUI and IVF visits

How often do you have to visit the doctor for the following treatments?

- IUI with Clomid
- IUI with injectibles
- IVF

Thanks!

Just trying to figure out how much commitment is expected out of me as my job is somewhat demanding...

TIA!

Re: IUI and IVF visits

I have only done IUI with Clomid and it was different each time (Did it 3x) Also did Clomid w/TI the first time which resulted in cysts that had to be monitored as well.

It was usually CD3 Testing (Blood, Sono, prescription for clomid from CD3-CD7.

Then I went back CD10-ish to see how the follies were doing.
If there were tiny, then I would go back like 3 or 4 days later.
If they were almost "there", I'd go back 2 days later (Blood & Sono each time)

Another follow up on Follies closer to O to check size (Blood & Sono) then I was told to start using smiley OPK to detect surge, once I surged, I had to call to schedule IUI.

IUI visit (blood work)

Go back 1 week later for progesterone check

1 More week for Beta

SO, all in all about 8 - 10 visits per cycle depending on what's going on. I think it also depends on how long you cycle is.

Sometimes there were unforeseen things that would cause even more visits. There was one cycle i was there literally 3x a week. That one stunk bc I had a $50 co-pay each time!

When my cycle was 28 days, there were less visits bc I Oed earlier. But when it was over 32 days, there were 2 extra visits in there while they were watching my follies.

Best of Luck!!!!

Re: IUI and IVF visits

For my injectable cycles I went on CD 3 for bw and sono,. They had me come back every 2-3 days for sono to make sure I wasn't over stimulating. Then the IUI @ O time, then 1 week later bloodwork, then one week later for beta. They monitor more closely with injectables.

Most REs have early morning hours if that helps.

Best of Luck!

At RMA for my letrozole IUI cycle they had me come in on cycle day 3 for b/w and then cycle day 12 for sono. I triggered on CD 13 at home and went in for IUI on CD 14. Total of 3 visits for an IUI.

Re: IUI and IVF visits

I am *almost* to the IUI point for my first IUI with clomid.

I went in CD3 (blood and sono) then on CD10 (blood and sono) CD12 (blood and sono) CD14 (blood and sono) I'm going back on CD16, and will either have IUI on CD16 or CD17.

So, far 5-6 visits, then I know there will be two more. One 7 days post IUI for progesterone check and then another for beta.

I have a job where unscheduled time off can be tricky, but luckily my appointments have been so early it hasn't been an issue.

If it comes to it, I'm going to have to "out" myself to my boss, but I'll worry about that if the time comes.

Holy cow, that looks like at min. 4-6 visits per cycle.

Were you all charged a copay every single visit?

We have no insurance for treatments, so the entire experience is OOP.

With my insurance, as long as its a medicated cycle, I only have 1 co-pay the entire cycle on CD3.

I had 2 cycles that were unmediated (due to cysts) that was $50 co-pay ever visit and had to pay 20% of each sono as well. Those months were killer.

I am on my 3rd Clomid/IUI cycle. My cycle is about 28-30 days. I went in on CD 3, 10, 12, and then CD 13 or 14 for IUI. Then Beta 2 weeks after IUI. So for me it was 5 times the last 2 cycles. Each time they do BW and Sono (except Beta day only WB). I have to pay a copay every time I go. One for BW and one for Sono....it sucks but its better than having no insurance. Its a lot to do and pay for but I keep on telling myself when it finally works it will all be worth it.

IUI and IVF visits

With IUI's and clomid I averaged 4-5 visits per cycle at $30 co-pay each visit for blood & sono. For IVF it was 13 visits which includes the monitoring and the procedures. Every time you go to the RE there will be a co-pay for bloodwork and the sono.

As far as the commitment going thru IF treatments is a commitment that you have to be willing and able to make. I have spent the past 2 yrs going thru IF treatments and my schedule revolved around it. I didnt take vacations because of when it fell on my cycle and weekend activities revolved around inseminations. You have to be prepared physically, mentally and especially emotionally for the roller coaster. For some the journey is quick but for others its long and hard.
