Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
Regular poster in hiding. Has anyone seen a therapist after giving birth? I had DC within the past six months and have not been able to shake the blues. My DH wants me to see someone about it, but I've never had counseling before, so I'm not sure how to find someone.
If you did seek professional help, did you try to find someone who specializes or has experience with postpartum women?
Please feel free to send me an FM if you'd prefer to share information privately. TIA.

Re: Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
You should start with you OB and he/she can refer you to a therapist who can help you out.

Re: Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
6 months is too long for it to be the baby blues. I don't have any recommendation, but I would also start with your ob. Hope it gets better really soon for you.

Re: Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
Yes! I had PPD and finally went to therapy when my baby was 8 months old. It helped a lot!!!
I lived in CT otherwise I would give you the name. I went through my OB and she was a specialist in family/ women's issues.
Good luck - it is hard- but there is help!

Re: Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
Definitely speak with your OB first. Also St. Catherines and Good Sams also has support group. I know Good Sams is going on now but St. Catherines might be starting up again soon. You can try calling them to see when they start. I went through PPD with my son and saw a social worker and went to St. Catherines group both things helped a lot. I also took medicine for a few months. It does get better. it is good that you recognize something might not be right. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Re: Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
I gave birth at Long Island Jewish in New Hyde Park and was approached in the hospital by a social worker who gave me the number to Dr. Walch from the Zucker Hillside hospital. She specializes in postpartum patients. It is an outpatient facility affiliated with LIJ. I'm so glad she did. I really needed it. Dr. Walch was great. I went on medication under her supervision. I also saw a therapist outside of LIJ. Talk to your OB but maybe contact the Zucker Hospital. Best of luck. If you need someone to talk to (or write to) you can Forum mail me anytime. I have been where you are and have made the up hill journey to happy motherhood.

Re: Postpartum Blues/Depression Question
Thank you all very much for your responses. It's been a struggle dealing with this, so it's very comforting to know I'm not alone. It's also great to hear that it is something that can be worked through. I'm going to reach out to my OB for a reference.
