Re: If you have endometriosis...

My story is a bit complicated and I am still undergoing treatment bc they think it may be affecting my kidney. I had horrible pain during AF to the point that I needed heavy duty meds to get through the day. Also pain pooing and feeling gassy. My ob just medicated me and said it could be endo but I was in my late teens and surgery is too invasive. I was having bowel problems and pain so I saw a gastroenterologist. He cleared me and mentioned the endo possibility. He referred me to a RE/surgeon in Cornell who specialized with endo. I met with him and he ordered emergency surgery for me in a few days. Turns out I had stage IV endo with numerous adhesions to my bowels and scarring on my uterus/ovaries and tubes. If I waited any longer, I would have needed a hysterectomy. This dr saved my reproductive organs! The recovery was simple and my life was forever changed. Barely any pain during AF-- normal cramping needed one or two Motrin a day instead of 5 Advil every 6 hours! If I would have listened to my Gyn to just wait it out, I wouldn't have my son-- I got pregnant with my DS a year later! I am having issues with my kidney and my dr is doing a Ct scan and maybe another lap to see if its endo related and I'm also TTC #2 6 years later. The Dr is Dr. Isaac Kligman in Cornell and he is amazing. I can't recommend him enough for giving me my life back!

If you have endometriosis...

zero symptoms and I would never even have known if it wasn't for my DS being stubborn and not wanting to move his arm so he could come out normally.

My OB found it during my Csection.

If you have endometriosis...

I had lots of symptoms...most were typical. bad cramps, heavy periods, gas, bloating. some of the worst ones I had that made him think I had endo was during ovulation. I would have trouble urinating and having bowel movements (sorry TMI) to the point where I would be curled up in pain. I also would have shooting pains going up my vagina & cramping like there's no tomorrow. I told my RE this the day of my 2nd IUI; he said that if it didn't work, he wanted to explore doing surgery. I had a laparoscopy done on March 7th and he found both endo and scar tissue. just had IUI #3 on 4/11, finding out tomorrow if it stuck.

Re: If you have endometriosis...

I had no real Endo symptoms. I have been suffering from lower right abdominal pain for YEARS. Drs. would blame kidney stones or a cyst they saw on the ovary. One Dr. was sure it was my appendix and I had surgery scheduled until it was ruled out by another Dr.

My OBGYN would say, well it could be endometriosis or adhesions causing the pain. Even though I always had regular, light periods.

After TTC for about 9 months, I went to my OBGYN again and said the pain is worse then ever and now I'm not getting pregnant. She did a Lap, found moderate endo with adhesions. She burned it all off. Since she did the surgery (May 2012) I have had no pain. I only get pain when I O from the right side and it lasts a day or 2. But nothing like it was.

She did say it will most likely come back. I plan on going on BC pills after I have a baby to keep it away. But being it's a year since the surgery, it's probably back somewhat by now Chat Icon

Re: If you have endometriosis...

i always had reallly bad cramps, heavy bleeding and my periods lasted a week. But i never knew why...i thought it was normal that some people had it like that. Then in my mid 20s during a regular obgyn exam i mentioned that my mom had surgery for fibroids and asked if i could have them also. So he did an internal sono and instead of finding a fibroid he saw a huge cyst on one of my ovaries. I had a lap to remove the cyst and that is when my dr confirmed it was endo. he also removed lots of scar tissue from my abdomen area. he said i had so much it was like a veil covering everything. he didnt see the cyst at first because of it! since my surgery my periods are finally "normal". last only 3-4 days, only heavy first day or two and the cramps are very little. i sometimes dont have to take anything for them.

few years after surgery i started ttc and i couldnt get pregnant...turns out the scar tissue returned and was blocking my fallopian tubes. So i needed IVF, after 2 tries i finally got pregnant with twin girls
