What can I cater for Saturday?
Looking for ideas. I'm having family over Saturday night for my son's 3rd. We were going to BBQ, but it's becoming less and less appealing to me given that DH won't be home from work until 5 and that's when the party starts. I don't want him stuck @ the grill for an hour, either...
Anyhooo, I'll make some crudite, cheese & crackers, etc. Trish - I need your puffs recipe!!! Michele made some and OMG they were soooo good!!!
It's about 20 ppl total. Not feeling heros and the like. I'd love suggestions!
What I really want to do is cancel it, but that's another post altogether.

Do you have a restaurant or deli you absoluletely love?
i would call em up see if they do catering, order some trays of everything. Pick em up an hour or so before the party and either put em on sternos or warm em up in the oven and serve.

Not sure how much your looking to spend, but I've used the Garage Eatery a lot.
Here's the website - http://www.thegarageeatery.com/
This what I've ordered in the past - Gourmet Sandwich Platter An assortment of hand sliced specialty breads, croissants, focaccia and wraps stuffed with the tastiest gourmet meats and cheeses. (Black Forest Ham with Brie, Smoked Turkey with Smoked Mozzarella, Fresh Roasted Turkey, Assorted Tortilla Wrap Sandwiches to name a few.) Includes a selection of homemade gourmet salads (Penne Pasta, Red Bliss Potato Salad, Tortellini Pasta Salad and Daily Specialty Salads along with a relish tray of pickles & olives.) $10.50 per person

Re: What can I cater for Saturday?
I agree, don't have hubby standing at the BBQ. In my house, for some reason, it always ends up being me instead! Especially if its going to be hot! But I have no suggestions except to have some trays of food brought in. THat's what we'll probably end up doing for Lauren's baptism.
I will post my appetizer recipe on the Recipe board for you

What town are you in? I know that the Cherrywood Deli in Wantagh does great BBQ catering where they come in and do EVERYTHING for you. I am sure a lot of places do that --- I just don't know what it would be like on such short notice, but I have been to parties where people had that done and it was SO nice!

They deliver, but I'm sure it would be $$ to go to Seaford.

Do they have a website? I'm using Iavarone Bros to cater my son's 1st next month, so I wanted to do something different for this one.

I do. I'm leaning towards doing a cold cut platter w/ asst'd cheeses and breads. It *must* be Boar's Head, though. What does Costco carry? I know BJs has Thumann's.

Re: What can I cater for Saturday?
This might sound strange but my Aunt had a graduation party for my cousin last year and catered it w/chinese food. It went over pretty well and everyone enjoyed it.

Not strange at all. We were actually thinking of doing Mexican or Greek. When my family goes out to eat it's *always* Chinese or Italian so I wanted to stay away from that.
We decided on cold cut/cheese platters and salads along w/ some appetizers. It's easy - right up my alley.
Thanks all!!
