1st B-day party... is this rude?
We will be having DD's 1st d-day party upstate in May b/c that is where all of our family and most of our friends are. We don't want anything big, just immediate family, a few close friends and God-parents. I was thinking it would be nice to have a few kids there as well, so they can all play together. DH and I both have huge families so we cant invite everyone. He has 2 cousins that we are close with that have young kids, 2 of which are just a little older than DD. Is it rude if we only invite them out of the extended family? It would mean that of the 2 cousins we invite, we wouldn't be inviting their other 3 siblings or parents.

Honestly, yes I think it is. if you were leaving out other cousins I would think it was fine. But to leave out their siblings and parents isn't very nice.

Siblings and parents, I would find rude... is it that big a deal to invite, im assuming, 4 more people?

I think it depends on your family. I know in my family it's kind of the norm. We have a big family and if every one invited the whole family to every birthday, not only would every party be huge but there would be parties constantly. I don't think any of us take offense to the fact that some people get invited to a kid's birthday and not others. We're very laid back though and I'm sure other people would get offended by it.

For a first bday that would be considered rude in my also verrrry large family. For bdays after that in play places etc. it is the norm to exclude child free couples and couples with kids who are too old for the place. For an at home thing those people would expect an invite though.

I would feel rude. My motto is invite one, invite all. I would never take offense if it happened to me, but everyone is different and I rather avoid drama. For DD's 1st we invited all family, for her 2nd only immediate to avoid having to invite everyone.

It would be 8 more people since the siblings are all married. I was thinking that since non of them have kids they wouldn't take offense to it, I know I wouldn't. I guess I just won't invite anyone but the immediate family, I don't want to offend anyone. Thanks everyone :)
