any boating mommies?
I'm due the end of May and we are huge boating couple! I figure this summer may be a bust as far as boating with baby, but I'm curious how old your children were when you first took them out on a boat.... I know the only rule I've heard so far is once they can hold there head up...any other advice for this FTM????

any boating mommies?
My DS was born in dec and we had him out Memorial Day weekend. But if he was a summer baby we would have taken him out probably around 4 weeks. He loves being on the boat and was out every nice weekend last year

How do you go about taking a 4 week old on a boat?? Safety wise?

We took DD out last summer at 3-4 months. Really we just ride over to fire island and stay for a few days so it's a few minutes of actual driving. DH held DD in her life vest and she conked out once we were moving. Before that I took her back and forth on the ferry.

All of our DC were a few months old (cold month birthdays) otherwise they would have been out straight away...
I held them in my arms with their life vest on.
Never heard anything about the head having to hold up on its own being a problem.
The best life vest is the one with the neck support suited for infants 30 lbs and under.

Life vest and I held him. Was fine. We have a small cabin where he napped and kept him in shade. He loves the boat.

DS was born memorial day of 11. We didn't take him out until summer of 12. We got him a safety vest and only had him out for a few hours. We waited because we didn't want to expose him to the boat fumes while he was still an infant.

So dh has decided that he will be getting an AC unit for the boat so that we can keep it temperature controlled.... now we can take him out as soon as we want. I also know mil bought us a life jacket, so as long as it's the right one we are still set!!! thanks for the help!!!
