Do you sometimes wish you were a different kind of parent?

Sometimes I wish I was a different kind of parent... more of a free spirit. Anyone else?

My DS is 12, and is a big music buff. Loves all the old classic rock and a lot of folk music, especially Mumford and Sons. He found out Mumford is playing the Bonnaroo Folk Festival in Tennessee in June, and so is Paul McCartney. He was like, "Wouldn't it be cool if we could go?"

I totally want to be the kind of mom that says, "Heck yes! Let's camp for 4 days in the mud at a folk festival when you're supposed to be having finals! That sounds like such a blast!" There was a time in my life where I would totally do that, but post-kids it's just not happening.

And I feel like I kind of let him down... Like that's a really cool experience for a 12 year old to have and I'm not cool enough to let him have that, if that makes any sense.

Sorry for the ramble... Anyone else wish they were a different kind of mom sometimes?

I think I will be a mix of that parent. I would totally try to go IF it was not during school time.

I think when DS is old enough for these type of things we will be the lets go during the summer but not if it means missing school.

I'm a pretty laid back parent, so I wish for the opposite. I wish I ran more of a tight ship.

Yes I wish I was more laid back so I could enjoy my kids more. I am too high strung and it bothers me. I try to flax more but it's hard.

I think I am a good mix, but at the end of the day, homework must be done and you are not missing a final for a concert. Part of a normal day of school, maybe, but not a final exam.

I'm also a laid back parent. As a person I wish I was more organized, but Igenerally like who I am as a parent.

I wish I had more trust in people. I envy those who go through life with an innocent until proven guilty view of the world. I know I think the opposite. People have to prove their innocence to me before I give them a whirl.
