For both our boys, it was around 6 months.

All 3 of mine were sitting well by 3.5-4.5 months. By 5 months all 3 could get into the sitting position on their own.

DD is 5.5months. She can hold herself up pretty well but still topples over a bit.

DD will be 6 months next week. She sits pretty well, but I still can't trust her to just leave her there by herself. But she'll sit nice and tall for a good 20+ minutes now before falling over.

Sitting really well
depends on your definition of "really well". He's been able to sit and hold himself up for about a month now, but topples over after a few minutes.
He's 5 months old now.

Just before 5 months. Once she started sitting that was it, she never fell over!
