When you go out to dinner....
What do you do to occupy your DC? My DS is 14 months old and doesn't want to sit still..We don't have sitters and take him everywhere with us. Lately, its a challenge. He screams high pitch, just because he can. He will eat some food but then throws the rest on the floor. If we give him a toy to play with, he drops it....Anyone have any tricks? I was thinking of bringing his portable DVD player but chances are it will end up on the floor. I know its the age, I know its to be expected but maybe someone has something they do that occupies their DC for more then 30 seconds??? TIA.

At that age it is challanging. We would go to places like a pizzeria/restaurant where we could eat quicker. I always had snacks (cheerios), coloring book and crayons, a fav toy and just try to,talk to,him and keep him busy. Sometimes i would use my phone and put on a mickey mouse clip from youtube

When you go out to dinner....
We go out to dinner a lot with my 11 month old DS. The minute we get there I feed him his dinner. Then I give him a few toys , I like those toys that come with clips so I can clip them to his high chair seatbelt.
His latest obsession is feeding himself puffs, so usually when our dinner comes I give him a bunch and that keeps him quiet while we eat.
We never go to fancy places and we try to be quick because after awhile he starts fidgeting and screaming.

Same. I feed her first and then give her little bites of whatever I'm having. I also give her cheerios which occupies her for a while.
I bring her lamaze toy since I can hook it to the loops on her seat cover. I do bring other toys but they do end up on the floor.
We go to noisier places like panera, pizza or tropical smoothie cafe. We usually do lunch since she's an early bird. DD loves to just watch everyone so she's always happy to be out. The only issue is that she will screech a bit out of excitement.

When you go out to dinner....
Take them out as much as possible. The more they are out the less they get crazy. My DS is 15 months and is pretty good out. But we have taken him places since day one. Last night all we had were the crayons they gave us. He was fine and we colored with him.

I agree with taking them out. But, that will NOT make them behave. My DS have been taken out almost weekly since day one. That doesn't mean anything. Some kids are just more easy going with that kind of stuff. My older one as matured enough to understand appropriate behavior, but my younger one is still a work in progress. He's hit or miss. Sometimes he's a dream, sometimes he's a terror.

We go out a lot.
Make sure kid is hungry & then feed the kid. Finger foods to keep it slow and interesting.
Beyond that, kids that age have a 2 minute attention span.
The only thing that is a guarantee is Disney junior on the smartphone with a serious case... Because, yes... It does get thrown.

It's been the same with us and our 19 month old son the past few months. We order his food early, which helps keep him from being hungry and impatient... but then he finishes before we do and wants "up!" - no matter what toys we have for him. So, one of us has to get up with him while the other gets the rest of (most of) our meals wrapped up to go. So, it's not enjoyable. I'm torn between bringing him out with us so he gets used to it and just staying home to avoid the headache altogether until this phase hopefully stops. I've settled on making sure he eats at the table at home without the t.v. on so he gets used to it for when we're out.
Is there an age when they generally get "better" in restaurants and more "patient"? I

When you go out to dinner....
My son is almost 2 but we have been doing this since he could sit in a highchair. I bring blueberries (which are his favorite) and whatever food hes going to eat. If we are ordering him food I'll ask if they can bring his food out with the appertizer. Once he starts whinning or being loud ill turn my kindle on with a show or something.

When you go out to dinner....
we go out all the time with our 16 month DS and he loves this booster chair...i leave it in my car so we use it everytime we're out
I took it with me on an 8 day cruise....it was perfect.
