Anyone take their DC to a specialist because they were not meeting physical developments?
DS is 9 months today & he still doesn't sit up as well as he should be. He meets all other physical milestones. He gets himself around really well & will hold his weight while standing. Ped wasn't concerned but I feel like they never are so I want to take him to a specialist. Who do I see for this kind of thing? An orthopedic?

IMO, if he is meeting all other milestones, I wouldn't see a specialist just yet. My son didn't sit up unassisted until a little over 9 months and he is perfectly fine. If there were other concerns, then I would have considered looking into it, but since he was crawling, pulling up, etc. I didn't see the need at that time.

It sounds like hes doign ok if hes meeting other milestones. I think its probably something you can just keep practicing with him... like spend extra time playing on the floor with him sitting up. Sit facing him holding a toy, so he has to sit up to play with it...that kind of stuff.
BUT if you're really concerned, a Physical Therapist would be the one to help with stuff like this. Early Intervention can do an evaluation for you.

Like PP said, I would keep having him practice and give it a little more time.
DD is 10 months and sits up great but doesn't do a lot of other things. She doesn't pull up, sit up from laying down, get up or down from her belly, or hold herself up on her knees. Her ped said she should find some way of moving by a year and if not we should try to get her physical therapy.
A few weeks or even days can make all the difference sometimes. I would wait, but if you want to move forward now or down the road I would look into early intervention.
ETA- We saw an ortho recently for unrelated issues and he wasn't concerned with her progress at all. He just said babies all take their own time to do things.

You can call Nassau County Early Intervention and have a PT evaluation done. What's nice about the eval is its free plus the PT will give you some good tips. It sounds like your DC wont be eligible but you can at least rest assured. I work for EI so FM me if you have questions. Nassau EI DOH - 516-227-8661, Suffolk EI DOH - 631-853-3100.

It doesn't hurt to take DS to a specialist. It may waste a few hours of your time but I'm sure it'll give you peace of mind.
