flu? with a newborn

i am going down hill fast, 102 fever, chills, body ache but no other symptoms. my DD is 5 weeks and I am sort of freaking out that whatever I have, she was 100% exposed to as I do 99% of everything for her.

i don't know what to do. don't know that hauling up in my room with no contact is possible. (oh and I have a 33 month old too).

i guess ill be calling the ped first thing tomorrow

I don't think there is anything you can do except call the ped and try to rest so you get better. Hope you feel better soon!

Are you breastfeeding? If so, could possibly be mastitis. Can have the same feeling as the flu.

Are you BF'ing? If so, this could be a great thing for you. When you are BF'ing, you pass your antibodies to DC and can either prevent them from getting sick or lessen the severity. DH and I were both terribly sick for a few days a month or two ago, I was certain DD would get sick but she never did. Feel better soon!

There isn't much you can do, but just so you know it doesn't mean she is 100% going to catch it.
When DD was an infant I came down with an awful stomach virus. One of the worst I ever had.
DH worked nights and I was alone with her all night long- feeding her, caring for her, etc.
I swore she was going to catch it and I was petrified because I was so sick I couldn't imagine how an infant would handle it.
Well she never got it.
And I didn't breastfeed either so it couldn't have been the antibodies, etc.

I had swine flu when DS was 10wks old. While I was in the hospital, I pumped and had DH or MIL give him the bottles. Then when I came home, I had to use a mask over my nose and mouth so older DS wouldn't catch it -- but docs said I could continue to nurse because DS was getting my antibodies from BM.
He never got sick
