Thoughts on this school issue. Hitting.
DS is 3 and attends school 2 days per week, 2.5 hrs.
There is a child in his class who started late, in November, and he has some behavior issues. He often hits, punches, and pushes other children. Parents have the chance to participate in class time so I have witnessed it as has DH and some other parents.
The teacher does not tell the parents at pick up that their child was hit by another student. DH participated in class this week and a mom asked me today if her son had been hit. Her son didn't want to go to school today bc he said the other child hit him during the last class. (said mom has witnessed her child be hit by this kid in the past)
We were wondering whether it's the teacher's responsibility to tell a parent that their child was hit. I'm not sure about this bc I'm sure it gets tricky but I'm leaning towards wanting to know if my child is being hit, pushed, smacked. I deserve to know if my child is enduring this. I can understand a one time thing but according to DH, he was hitting, pushing kids towards the wall, throwing sand at them.
Thoughts?

Thoughts on this school issue. Hitting.
DS is 3 and has a hitter in his daycare class - anytime I go in there and the kid is still there, he's in time out for something.
The teachers don't tell me if the kid has hit my son. I do ask the teachers on a periodic basis. When I ask DS how his day was, it usually is an account of who hit who in class (although I think sometimes he repeats a story from a previous day).
If he were to bruise him, cut him, etc, I would have to fill out an incident report and would be alerted that my son had been touched by a child but, they would not be able to tell me who (although I would guess it would be this specific child and DS would tell me).

The same.
They wont tell me if she's been hit and at 3 it was difficult to get the story out of her. But if she was cut, scratched, bit or brusied I'd have to sign a form. It said 'another child' but never the name of that child. However if MY child was the aggressor then I would have to sign THAT form too. In other words both parents victim and bully had to sign forms and both are kept. Too many aggressor forms in your file and you are asked to leave.
I was soooooooooooooooooo happy when AJ was finally reliable with her stories. I know EXACTLY who kicks and punches her now.

hmmm...
My sons preschool didn't ever tell me of any incidents. I'm sure it happened because my son would tell me. But he also would tell me what happened to that kid... if he got time out, if he apologized, etc. I have a BIG talker.
So unless it was an issue and a repeated offense, i didn't make a big deal of it.
Unfortunately at that age, it's going to happen. As long as the school is disciplining and/or trying to correct it... then i have no problem with them not telling me everytime something happens. Unless it's something major of course.

I don't believe they're required to tell you unless it left a mark or drew blood.

I have no idea what they're required to tell but we were told once that DD was pushed at daycare. She had the teeny tiniest dot of a scratch above her eye, so I'm wondering if that is why they told us. There was no report or anything given to us and we weren't asked to sign anything, the teacher just mentioned it to DH when he picked her up. I agree that I would want to know if it were happening even on a semi-frequent basis.
