1st birthday Q re: timing & entertainment
We're doing it at a restaurant and can have the room for 3 hours (1-4. Is that too long for a party? Should I have it end after 2? I don't need an end time on the invite but i'd need to let the restaurant know so they know how to prepare food, clear tables, bring out desserts, etc. Also, I was thinking to have someone come and sing songs/do parachutte time etc from 1:30-2:30, but then thinking maybe to add someone for 30 minutes or so to do balloons or something too. IS that overkill? Would it be good or bad? Just don't want it to feel too drawn out and I don't want people not to have time to eat, but I also want it to be fun without too much dead time. Any advice from BTDT moms?

1st birthday Q re: timing & entertainment
DS's 1st birthday was from 2-6 and by 5-5:30 you could see everyone was done, including DS! so 3 hours is definitely enough time. we had snacks on the table, put food out around 2:30-3 so the kids could eat, then the entertainment came from 3-4:30 and parents ate during that time, then cake and coffee after that.

Re: 1st birthday Q re: timing & entertainment
I think 2 hrs might be too short...feel a bit rushed esp in a restaurant...you want people to relax a bit before and after they eat...all 3 of my 1st birthdays were 4 hrs...but I think 3 hrs is good...
I had entertainment for 1 hr...the kids were ok with that...I don't think you want to over do it...they will keep themselves busy...plus they need time to eat too..a meal and dessert later on as we'll...they won't eat when there is entertainment. If you want you can put some crayons and coloring books out on a kiddie table that they can always go to throughout the party...
People like to get together with family and friends and talk and catch up...I think you will be surprised how quickly 3 hrs will go..I don't think anyone will feel it is dragging on!
Have fun! Enjoy!

2 hrs will be short. Id ask the restaurant what time they would normally serve food becaause they usually know the timing of these things. Maybe do one activity before food then one after.
