taking doxycycline before HSG
I have my HSG scheduled for Friday and started taking Doxycycline this morning. Has anyone else had to do this?
I am supposed to take it starting today, 2x a day through Saturday. It made me horribly nauseaous. Any tricks to remedy that side effect? TIA

I took it before my saline sono. Definitely eat first. That helped me not get so nauseous.

Also make sure to take it with a full glass of water. I did not and ended up with an ulcer in my throat!

same thing happened to me..it said to take on an empty stomach and it made me ill..i spoke with nurse and she said take it on a full stomach its fine.

definitely take it with food! It sounds like you are starting it early?!?! I started it the night before my HSG and was able to stop it after 3 days as long as I didn't have symptoms of infection.

I did take it with a huge glass of water - think I may drink even more in the future when I take the pills over the next few days.
I don't know why I started them early. I was given instructions from my doc's office and they advised I take them 2x a day, starting 2 days before the procedure, day of the procedure and day after procedure - total of 8 pills.
I wish I didn't have to take them, but I started already.

I also was advised to start taking them two days before.. same schedule. My RE said to do this bc they want it in the body and working already before the test to prevent an infection. Def take it with food! My bottle said to take it an hr after eating and avoid certain foods that can prevent absorbtion (I don't remember, sorry)..It can really make you sick if you take it on an empty stomach! Good luck tomorrow. PM me if you have any questions. I had mine last week and it wasn't bad at all.. just more embarrassing and awkward than anything lol
