The dreaded weight speech.
My doctor told me I have gained too much weight. And according to the numbers I have. I am embarrassed to write it but I am up 37 lbs in my second trimester. I was underweight before pregnancy and super active and have just been so tired that my activity level is way lower than I would like it to be. I am eating healthy and am just terrified now of something beingw rong wtih the baby or gaining 90lbs while pregnant! The doctor suggested I walk more and watch what I am eating (which i thought I was doing!) Ugh I am so so upset and embarrassed.

Re: The dreaded weight speech.
Please don't worry about this. If you were underweight to begin with then your body needed to put on more weight in order to sustain a healthy pregnancy. I am not sure why your doctor is telling you that has been "too much." I gained 45 lbs total during my pregnancy and not once did my doctor comment that I was gaining too much. I wasn't eating McDonald's every night either, it was just the way my body reacted. I had a healthy DS. I am working on losing that weight now and I have 13 lbs to get to my pre-pregnancy weight but I will eventually get there. Just focus on being healthy and after your LO comes you can get back to getting in shape. Don't stress it!

The dreaded weight speech.
IMO I wouldn't worry. I gained over 40lbs and all but a few were in the 1st and 2nd tri.
Everyone gains differently and since you were underweight to begin with I don't think its that bad. The difference between 10 lbs during a pregnancy is nto going to hurt the baby....Unless of course there are other issues such as GD etc. And plenty of people have gained tons of weight and the worst that happens is that you have to take it off after.
DOn't beat yourself up. I am sure its fine.

Re: The dreaded weight speech.
I am sorry. That's very annoying. I honestly think doctors are too weight obsessed. I read somewhere that people who were chronic dieters and exercisers before pregnancy gain the most weight in the beginning because of such a huge lifestyle change. That happened to me. At 32 weeks I gained 40 pounds, YET everyone tells me I look small and thinks I gained 15-20. Go figure! I was pretty skinny beforehand. As long as you are healthy, you are fine.

Re: The dreaded weight speech.
some people just gain more than others! I got the same speech (i gained 56 lbs with Landon and 75 lbs with the twins). All the weight came off and we are all healthy. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Re: The dreaded weight speech.
Thanks ladies. I am just so discouraged that this is even an issue. Just trying not to let it get to me or to flip out and start restricting or doing too much!

Re: The dreaded weight speech.
My doctor hasn't said anything to me yet but i'm awaiting the same talk. At almost 21 weeks I have already gained 24lbs. I'm so scared i'm going to end up gaining like 70lbs! I was also very fit and active before hand but to be honest I just think I've been overdoing it with the snacking. I keep promising myself that I will gain control but then i find myself saying yes to cookies or cake. Sigh.

Re: The dreaded weight speech.
Lauren!!!! You are a tiny tiny person!! You were working out a lot before your pregnancy and like you said underweight. So I would subtract the weight that would get you to the "average" mark and see how much you have gained from that point. Don't be embarassed!!! You're eating healthy and if you're tired there is only so much physical activity you can do, you don't want to wear yourself out!
Some people gain in the beginning and others at the tail end, you may not gain much more in the third trimester. Also you could have gone to a completely different doctor and they could have said nothing. My doctor hasn't said anything about my weight and I have passed the 40lbs mark and I was an average weight before getting pregnant.

Thank you so much...this made me feel better. I left a message for the doctor I usually see and hoping he calls back today so i can maybe get some peace of mind.

The dreaded weight speech.
I gained 60lbs. My dr wasn't concerned at all. I'm an average sized woman. 5'2" 125lbs pre pregnancy. My mom gained the same when she was pregnant too. Don't beat yourself up.
