What class for an 8-month-old: Little Gym or Saf-T-Swim
I really want to start doing a weekend class with DD, since I'm a FTWM. It's tough because our weekends are so busy, but I really want to reserve this time for her and me. If we do Little Gym, we would have to do the one in Levittown, because the one in Merrick does not have a "Bugs" class on the weekends. DD loves to move, and just started crawling yesterday. Everyone comments on how active she is, so a gym class might be great for her. On the other hand, Saf-T-Swim in Bellmore is right near me, and I would love for DD to get some water experience before the summer. I would also like to feel more comfortable with her in the water, since I'm a nervous mommy. However, the idea of putting on a bathing suit is SO unappealing!! We joke that DD should be a swimmer, because she is always kicking her legs!
Which class do you think would be better for an 8-month-old, if we start something later this month?

Personally I feel like your comparing apples and oranges... ya know?
I LOVED Gymboree for my DD... she absolutly was obsessed with it! We went to the one at the source... But I also had her in swimming b/c I felt like it was a necessity. At 8 months yes you usually would start with the baby and me class which a lot of the moms also just wore shorts over there bathing suits and some even tanks... I just wore my bathing suit b/c I have no shame haha jk.
But I felt like Little Gym, My Gym and Gymboree are for for Fun and yes they definitely build muscles and learn in these classes, my daughter learned and grew leaps and bounds. But I find Swimming is a something every child should do.
With that being said, at 8 months If I had to choose one, I would do a Gym thing... I am 100% advocate on swimming, but maybe starting her at like 12 months, in the little warmer weather might be better? IDK...

I know. Thanks for your response. I would love to do both, but we definitely only have time for 1. I am leaning toward gym, DH is leaning toward swim...maybe I should make him put on his trunks and go in with her!

I've done both. I love mommy and me swimming more. The gym in fun but I feel like my dds get more out of swimming and I personally love the water.

I LOVE Saf T Swim.
And if you're concerned about the bathing suit - I just bought this one and it's VERY flattering: Jantzen

I actually love the water too, just feeling self-conscious of my body these days!

It's really pretty on - definitely don't feel like a grandma, and the dress part hits below the butt and it hides A LOT actually. More than I expected.

Re: What class for an 8-month-old: Little Gym or Saf-T-Swim
Thanks ladies. I just called Saf-T-Swim and reserved the last space for their session starting on March 30th. The February start date was already booked. Maybe I can do some Little Gym with her between now and then.

She will be able to "do more" at Tlg then at swimming kwim? She can crawl around and explore vs being held by you in a pool.
I'm not knocking saf-t-swim at all. I started my oldest at 3 and she's swimming completely on her own. My youngest goes to the tiny tots class at Tlg, in merrick. It's their version of "school". I've has excellent experiences at both places.
