DD has a cold with a fever
DD came home from school yesterday with a miserable cold. Today she was not really herself - tired and not hungry. When I picked her up from my moms, I got her to eat some of younger DD's puffs and 2 bags of fruit snacks. Then got her home and she ate some chicken soup. I took her temp and it's about 101.5. Gave her tylenol at 6:30. Now I never wake DD's to give them medicine in the middle of the night, so is it safe to give her motrin before she goes to bed at 8:30?? She will be 4 in March.

Yes. I would.
My 10 month old has the same or a similar virus. Beware - you think its gone and then their fever spikes. He got sent home on Tuesday and today from daycare (he was 24 hrs fever free and his normal self yesterday so I sent him back).

DD has a cold with a fever
DD has the exact same thing. Only difference is hers started with Fever and like 3 hours later the cough. Yesterday she was 99-100, this morning 103 and pretty much all day. I gave motrin again @ 4pm she fell asleep and woke up soaked, temp 97.5. I plan to give mptrin around 10pm and hope that the fever is really gone. We shall see. Hope DD feels better.

Re: DD has a cold with a fever
I don't give fever reducers unless the temp is more than 102 degrees or they are completely miserable.

Really? If you don't mind me asking, why?
I know that I feel miserable with a fever...even a 99.9. I know that after I give my kids fever reducers they feel so much better. I don't go crazy with doses and I know there is theory that the body can combat a fever on its own without medicine, but I just know how much better it makes the body feel..

Re: DD has a cold with a fever
If my child seems miserable or can't sleep at night, then yes I will give meds.
For example, if my child has a fever of 101.5 but is otherwise acting ok, , I try to let the body fight off the infection/virus on it's own. On the other hand, if my child has a fever of 100.8 and is acting lethargic, etc., I definitely give meds.

My dd started the same way last Sat. Woke with a fever and then had sore throat at cough by the next day. I've had many sleepless nights this week due to it. She finally started feeling better yesterday. Motrin was doing nothing for her sore throat. Hope your little one is feeling better too.

DS has been the same way. If its a low fever we don't give him anything. But he has been this way since Thursday.
