I love my daughter!!! (brag)
Took her in for a shot. Didn't skirt the issue either. She knew since last night today she was getting a shot. 3 weeks ago she went with us to get our blood taken so she saw both of us get a needle and our blood fill up vials. No tears from either of us (of course). She called us brave. LOL
So today we woke up and off to the doctor for a shot. She didnt cry last time, but who knows. We walk in and she goes up to the receptionist (The have a lowered section for kids) and as Im signing her in she says loudly "I'm getting a shot and I'm going to be BRAVE!" haha
Nurse comes to get us and prep her (weight and temp). As he's about to leave she says "Are you going to give me a shot?" and you can see the nurse thing "oh crap!" and looks at me and I just smile "she knows, its ok" so he answered her Yes, I am. She just nodded and said "Can I have a princess bandaid?" LOL
He came back with 6 stickers and 8 bandaids (seriously WHOA buddy!) and she picked her bandaid and one sticker. He gave a second for being so nice. Then tells ME that he's giving her a shot on her right leg (i already knew she wanted her left). So I said "Please talk to her as well, she has something to ask you." So he tells her the same and brings her into the conversation and she listened so intently LOL like she had any idea what he's saying. Then said "but I want the shot on this leg" and points to her left. I asked if its ok and he said no problem. She was so excited.
pulled her slacks down, laid down and I told her she could squeeze my hand if the pinch hurt.
She was shocked at the pain but hung on. She didnt cry or scream. You could SEE her struggle with it but she won out. Then she giggled cause the nurse put the bandaid on the wrong spot. She got her sticker and said "Thank you" to the nurse which I smiled at and he seemed to think it was funny too.
She's my little rock star. I gave her high fives and hugs and told her how proud I was of her that she didnt cry. She was my hero. She basked in the admiration I think. She skipped on out to the exit nurse and told her too "I got a shot and I didn't cry" the two nurses there said "yes we know, you were our only shot and usually we hear it, you're so brave" and yes, she got ANOTHER sticker!
Just so damned proud of her. She went to school and told her teacher and friends too. Shows off her sticker "I got this because I was brave and didn't cry" lol
Next up 2pm dentist appt for cleaning. Again we were up front for awhile that this was going to happen and they would be in her mouth. She asks "will it tickle" which is what she says when I get her top back molars. haha yes it will and she laughs. Hope its a good visit too.
I so love my little kiddo!

THAT one depends on the nurse. AJ's did it on her heel and did a quick prick then pushed the blood drops out. The whole time AJ was playing with her toes.
I won't lie she used to scream and cry crazy from 1.5 to 2.5 or so then one day they gave her just one shot and she didnt cry. She seemed shocked. So I made a big deal and we all played into it.. made it such a huge affair. Next time she nearly cried then we made fun of something and gave high fives. I think the build up is/was the hardest part. I never let her see me stress it so she didn't get stressed. The nurse that first time was so busy she didn't really come in with bedside manner just shoot and go. that actually helped. Basically the whole idea is its NOT a big deal, its quick and its over and the afterwards is so awesome.
Now.. come CLOSE to AJ with a Q-tip and you'll hear tears and begging "no..." because nose, throat swabs have been done and she HATES them!
