Re: what can I expect-IUI & IVF Procedures
I can give you an overview of IVF based on my experience: 3 weeks of BCP 4 days of estrogen pill 8 days of injections (menopur, follistim, and last 4 days ganarelix) Trigger day 9 Retrieval day 11 3 day transfer, start baby aspirin PIO injection 1x daily 7dp3dt start estrogen pill Beta 11 days after to confirm pregnancy continue PIO until Aprox 12 weeks pregnant Continue estrogen pill then decreased at 9 weeks plan to eliminate at 10-11 weeks Endometrin vaginal progesterone started at 5w and decreased at 9w. Plan to eliminate between 10-11 weeks.
Bloating around day 7-9 of injections, Some mild discomfort after retrieval felt more like stretching and bloating. No major discomfort after transfer, but the transfer itself was uncomfortable because you have to have the transfer with a full bladder.
HTH!

IUI was a quick try for us that didn't work due to my husband's counts but as for IVF, done it 4 times, yes bloaty and I looked 9 months prego before I got pregnant, had HSG, follicle check, various labs and then stim meds with level checks and scans before follicle aspiration. the RE we used did 5 day embryo reimplants. progesterone inj for first trimester then if your prog is ok you can wean off or switch to pill form.

BCP- birth control pills BETA- blood test to check presence of pregnancy hormone 14 days passed retrieval. Trigger- injection taken 36 hours before retrieval gives your follicles that final push toward maturity. I am currently 9w5d pregnant and I am still on 1 injection a day. Estrogen pill- one of the hormones your body needs to sustain a healthy pregnancy is estrogen. So I am still on a estrogen pill. Was on 2x daily, just got approval this week to go to 1x per week. Hoping I can stop taking it soon. In addition, I am on a vaginal suppository 2x daily which is basically like using a tampon. You put the tablet in the applicator and slip it up there. Hope my dr. Allows me to go down to 1x a day soon on that too.
I forgot to mention that right after the retrieval I was also on a steroid 4x daily and an antibiotic 2x daily for 5 days.
ETA that my issues have always been getting pregnant and my dr. Has never worried about me keeping a pregnancy. I am sure there is variability between Drs and patients, but I told you everything because I too am still shocked by how much medication I am taking 9weeks in.

Best bet is to talk to your Dr. as they will be the only one to tell you your plan of action and most of it is day by day. I'm on day 7 of injections (took the BCP (birth control pill for 7 days) , did/took nothing for 3 days and started injections (2 types . Tonight will be my 7th day of injections and at my visit this morning i started another injection. I have another visit on Sunday to determine next steps (i don't even know when i will be getting a retrieval/transfer) yet....anything can happen. Definitely scary but very excited. Good luck and if you want to talk more feel free to FM me.
Thanks Deb

thank you all so much. I am learning so much from you. I will talk more to my dr on Monday to see what the plan of action will be. As long as my insurance covers IUI i'm going to try that for at least 2 months and hope for the best. Now i just have to gear myself up for these injections :( i'm such a baby

First, I will say the injections are not that bad. After day 1, they will be no big deal. I took me 15-20 minutes to inject myself.
Each person's IVF plan will be different. Here is mine:
Lupron started on Day 20 until CD3. Start stimming on CD3 with Gonal F and Menopur until CD 10-13. Triggered Egg Retrieval 1.5 days after trigger shot. I then took crinone, estradiol, lovenox, and baby aspirin. Egg Transfer 3-5 days after the ER.
As for side effects, I was bloated right before the ER and then 3 days after the ER. I had no real weight gain. Actually when I started stims both times, I lost 1-2 pounds. I had a lot of discomfort for 3 days after the ER.
For the entire process, I am most concerned about getting OHSS.
