I don't think i can watch news anymore..
they are scaring me about the flu, mentioning how many people have died from it already..then they go on to say even if your healthy you can die from it, like this girl in Ohio did....i'm officially a nervous wreck now!
I have never gotten the flu shot in my entire life (i'm 40), and have never gotten it, but this is scary!

I'm sure it's a bad season for it BUT I also think the media is hyping it up. Also, last year was such a mild winter that if you are comparing this year to last, it must seem like a huge increase in cases. I've had the flu twice and it is awful, I won't lie. It's extra scary for me this year now that I have an infant. But I try to keep this in perspective. Everyone was panicking about the swine flu just a few years ago too. It's like this every couple of years it seems.

To get you to panic.
It's good for ratings.
The flu is around every year.
People die every year.
It is still rare for a healthy person to die from it- it's possible but most deaths have been from eldery or sick people.
Remember swine flu?
Oh and that bird flu thing from years ago?
It's always something.
It's not the bubonic plague.
This is not the movie Outbreak.
I don't think we need to zip ourselves into the bubble just yet
I know plenty of people who have had it and have lived to tell about it

i agree! i work in the peds ER, and EVERYONE has either flu, RSV or both just stay home, rest, drink plenty of fluids, tylenol, motrin and don't panic. everyone is panicking because of the news. we all survived swine flu................same thing here. if you can it's not too late for the flu shot. influenza A seems to be the one that the shot is not covering, however, it is not the only strain out there. The shot appears to be covering other strains, one of the bigger ones out there being H3N2. The shot is not going to give you the flu. it takes 2 weeks to build up the proper antibodies and work, so if you are going to get it, do it sooner than later.

I'm nervous as well. I got my girls vaccinated and dh and I go on Monday. I feel like I've done what I can to help protect us. I've really had to limit watching and reading the news as much as I was. Between the flu and the school shootings I'm getting myself sick.

They hyped the flu last year too..saying it started much earlier then normal, how bad it was ,etc. It's what they do. I would not get yourself too worried about it and practice healthy things like washing your hands, not touching your face, etc.

Yup, I stopped watching. I have a greater chance of dying in a fire, a car accident, by gun violence or from prescription medication, but I'm not going to live my life in fear.
